Second Half Explosion Helps Chop Foresters

Huntington, Ind. - The Marian women's basketball team finished off the day with a 82-63 win over Huntington. The Knights are now 19-5 overall and 12-2 overall in the Crossroads League.

Kiley McNally knocked down the first basket with a jump shot but Huntington was able to fire back with a trio of free throws to take the early lead. Taylor Double, Olivia Faust, and Kenna Kirby fired back with a trio of jump shots to claim the 10-5 lead. The Foresters continued to fight, knocking down three free throws and a jump shot to level the score. Both teams traded baskets with Madisyn Bailey recording a jump shot and free throw for the Knights. Abbey McNally got on the board with a pair of layups to record the lead once more. Huntington tabbed the last basket for the quarter with the Knights securing the 17-15 lead.

Bailey and Abbey McNally opened up the second quarter with a pair of jump shots. Huntington was able to fire back with a pair of three-pointers to draw the 21-21 tie. Abbey was able to benefit off of a Foresters foul to draw a free throw but was quickly countered by a three-pointer from the home team. Both sides traded baskets once more with Zoe Wheeler getting her hand in the mix with a jump shot to bring the game within a two point deficit. Huntington continued their push at the lead with two pairs of free throws only to be broken up by Faust's jump shot. Kirby was able to fire off a three pointer to bring the score 30-29 in favor of Huntington. With less than three minutes left the home team was able to knock off a free throw but Abbey was able to draw a tie once more with a layup. Kennedy Fuelling knocked down a three-pointer followed by a jump shot from Faust to extend the 36-31 lead. Both sides traded free throws with Double out-scoring the Foresters with a pair. Huntington ended off the half with a jump shot to record the 38-34 lead for Marian.

Faust, Kiley, and Abbey McNally opened up the third quarter with a jump shot from Olivia and a free throw from Kiley and two from Abbey to extend the lead. The Knights went on a four basket run with Madisyn Bailey knocking off a jump shot and a pair of free throws and Double knocking down a jump shot. The Foresters fired back with a free throw and a jump shot to bring the score 49-37. Faust and Double each fired off a jump shot only to be countered by the Forester's pair of free throws. Abbey was able to record two more layups followed by a three-pointer by Faust before Huntington was able to fire off a layup bringing the score 60-41 with 3:40 remaining in the quarter. After a free throw from Abbey McNally both teams traded a pair of jump shots with Eva Fisher and Double recording the baskets for the Knights to end the quarter 65-45.

Bailey opened up the final quarter with a jump shot followed by both teams firing off free throws with Abbey recording the point for Marian. Faust knocked down another jump shot but was quickly countered by a pair of free throws from Huntington to bring the score 70-51. Both teams traded jump shots but the Knights were able to out-score with Kiley McNally, Wheeler, and Fisher all tabbing the baskets for Marian. The Foresters knocked down two pairs of free throws but Kiley was able to break up the run with a jump shot. Emily Grim got in the mix with a jump shot to extend the 80-57 lead. Huntington was able to fire off a pair of free throws and a jump shot which was broken up by a jump shot from Wheeler with 1:30 left in the game. Huntington finished off the game with a pair of free throws to draw the 82-63. 

Abbey McNally led the team recording another double-double with 12 rebounds and 17 points. Olivia Fause recorded 15 points while Taylor Double recorded 12 and Madisyn Bailey recorded 11. Bailey and Kiley McNally each recorded six rebounds and Faust recorded five. Abbey McNally, Double, and Eva Fisher led the team in assists with five three each. 

The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, February 12th as they take on Bethel at home at 5:00 p.m.
