Williamsburg, Ky. - The Marian men's tennis team was handed a 6-1 defeat on Friday, suffering their third straight loss as they played against No. 16 University of the Cumberlands. Marian is 8-10 overall in their season.
The Knights were defeated in doubles early on Friday, losing the first point of the match as the Patriots won at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Marian's pair of Bogdan Precupsecu and
Tjark Kunkel led 4-3 at No. 3 doubles before they stopped at the point being clinched.
In singles, Marian's lone win came from
Bogdan Precupescu at No. 1 singles, as he topped Liam Savio 6-2, 6-1. The win was Marian's lone point of the match, as the Cumberlands won at each of the other five positions.
James Ashworth put up the closest fight in his match, losing 6-4, 6-4 against Luis Marcos.
Marian will return to action on Friday, March 21, as they travel to Holy Cross College.Â
