INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian men's tennis team snapped a three-match losing skid on Friday afternoon, as the Knights stomped the Campbellsville Tigers 5-2. Marian is now 9-10 overall on their season.
The Knights blitzed through doubles, getting off to a hot start as
Jones McNamar and
Marcos Ramos Cabrera won 6-0 against Manuel Pinheiro and Sebastian Toledo on the top doubles court. Marian's second pairing of
Bogdan Precupescu and
Marc Soriano were tested, but hung on to win 6-4 against Juan Ochoa and Nathan Boulard.
Jan Bartolome and Juan Garcia-Tunon came up short as the Knights looked to sweep doubles, as they fell at No. 3 against Alvaro Agullo and Michael Harding 7-5.
The Tigers were able to take a lead on the Marian as the match moved into singles, with the visitors winning at No. 1 and No. 2.
Bogdan Precupescu fell in his match at No. 1 6-3, 6-4, and
Marc Soriano fell in three sets, losing 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5) at No. 2. Marian kicked it into gear as Juan Garcia-Tunon finished his match at No. 3, as he earned a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (9) win against Sebastian Toledo to tie the match score 2-2.
Tunon's win sparked the team, as
Jones McNamar breezed through his match at No. 6 singles with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Jan Bartolome clinched the match for Marian at No. 5, winning 6-4, 6-0 against Juan Ochoa, snapping Marian's losing streak.
Marcos Ramos Cabrera finished the win with a strong 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles, sealing the Knights' 5-2 victory.
Marian will play their final home match of the season on Saturday morning, when the Knights take on Georgetown College for their senior day match. Senior ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m., with the match to follow at 11:00 a.m. Marian and Georgetown will play at Riverside Park.Â
