Upland, Ind.- The Knights finished off the weekend with a sweep over the Trojans with a 9-3 win in game one and a 13-10 win in game two. The Knights are now 23-5 on the season and 13-3 in the Crossroads League.
Game 1 | Marian 9-3
Taylor struck first in game one with a runner scored off of a double into left center to take the lead in the third inning. Marian fought back in the very next inning with
Ally Malone hitting a sacrifice fly while bases were loaded to allow
Grace Meyer to score.
Brooke Knox followed it up with a double to right center allowing
Hayley Greene and
Jenna Minnix to claim the 3-1 lead.
Abby Madere opened up the fifth inning with a home run right down the middle to increase the lead to five. Malone followed up with a single with bases loaded allowing Meyer and
Lily Wendt to increase the lead once more. After a dry inning for both sided
Abbey Hofmann hit a three-run home run down the middle with
Karly Anderson and
Jenna Minnix scoring on the play to extend the lead 9-1.
In last ditch efforts Taylor was able to chop down at the Knights lead with a single up the middle followed by an advancement on an error by the Knight's third baseman to bring the score 9-3 to end game one.
Brooke Knox led the team going 2-3 from the plate with two RBI's.
Abbey Hofmann and
Ally Malone led the Knights in RBI's with three a piece while Hofmann went 2-5 from the plate with one run scored and Malone went 1-3 from the plate.
Lily Wendt and
Grace Meyer each went 2-4 from the plate with Meyer scoring two runs and Wendt scoring one. In the circle
Olivia Stunkel earned her 12th win of the season pitching six innings striking out three batters and gave up two hits in her 24 batters faced.
Lauren Mayer came in to close out the game giving up two hits in her seven batters faced.
Game 2 | Marian 13-10
The Knights struck first in the second inning with
Lily Wendt starting off strong scoring on a wild pitch followed by
Hayley Greene singling into left center to allow
Grace Meyer to score a run for the Knights. At the next at bat
Ally Malone hit a two-run home run into center field to allow Greene to score and increase the lead to four.
Jenna Minnix wrapped up the top of the inning with a sacrifice fly to allow
Caroline Roop to score the run and increase the lead 5-0.
Taylor equally had a striking inning with five runs scored off of a fielders choice, two singles, and a double to bring the game to a 5-5 bottleneck after two innings. Marian struck once more in the fourth inning with
Abby Madere singling down the right field line to allow
Abbey Hofmann to extend the lead. Meyer quickly followed up with a single to score Madere and extend the lead 7-5.
The Trojans continued to fight with three more runs scored in the fourth inning off of a home run and two singles to take the 8-7 lead. Hofmann opened up the fifth inning with a single followed by an error by left field allowing Roop and Malone to score and take back the one point lead. Minnix followed up with a ground out allowing Hofmann to score and take the 10-8 lead.
Taylor pushed at the Knights lead once again with two more runs scored off of a home run and a single to bring the game to a 10-10 bottleneck in the final inning. Hofmann kicked seventh inning action off with a two-run home run extending the lead with Means following.
Lily Wendt wrapped things up with a single up the middle to allow Madere to score the final run. Marian got out of the game with a 13-10 win with two straight outs into the outfield and a groundout to third base to finish off the game.
In game two
Abbey Hofmann led the team going 4-5 with four RBI's and three runs scored while
Grace Meyer went 2-4 from the plate with one RBI and one run scored.
Abby Madere and
Ally Malone each went 3-5 from the plate each recording two runs while Malone recorded two RBI's and Madere recorded one.
Jenna Minnix also earned two RBI's and
Mystic Means went 1-1 with one run scored in her pinch hitting appearance. In the circle
Macy Coan earned the start with 1.1 innings pitched striking out one batter and giving up five hits in her 12 batters faced.
Katie Lackman came in to pitch two innings with 10 batters faced.
Alayna Tesnar took the win with 3.2 innings pitched striking out two batters.
The Knights will be back at home on Tuesday, April 1st to take on the Saint Francis Cougars with first pitch set for 3 pm.
