Knights Fall in Crossroads League Championships

Marion, Ind. - The Marian women's basketball team fell in the Crossroads League Championships to Indiana Wesleyan 64-58. The Knights are now 23-7 overall on the season.

Both teams opened up the first quarter with a layup and a jumper with Abbey McNally shooting the layup for the Knights and Kenna Kirby shooting the jumper. With the game at a 4-4 bottleneck the Wildcats fired off a layup but Kirby was able to take the lead with a three-pointer. Each side traded three-pointers with Taylor Double shooting second and taking the 10-9 lead going into the media timeout. Out of the timeout the Wildcats ended the quarter with four baskets to take the 15-10 lead over Marian.

The Knights opened up the second quarter with a layup from McNally and a three-pointer from Kennedy Fuelling to bring the game to a 15-15 bottleneck once more. Indiana Wesleyan followed up with a trio of layups to take the lead. McNally and Zoe Wheeler fired off a layup each to bring the game down to two but the Wildcats continued to fire off baskets with a layup and three-pointer to extend their lead 26-19. McNally fired off a layup but was quickly countered by Indiana Wesleyan's three-pointer. Kirby benefited off of a Wildcat foul to knock down a free throw but the home team struck last with a layup to end the quarter 31-22.

Indiana Wesleyan opened the third quarter with three baskets to increase their lead 36-22. Bailey and McNally fought back with a basket each to bring the Wildcats lead down to 10 but the home team continued their push with a three-pointer. Bailey and McNally each recorded another layup while Bailey recorded a pair of free throws to bring the Wildcats 39-32 lead down to seven. Each team traded a pair of baskets to end the quarter with Fuelling recording a three-pointer and McNally recording a free throw to bring the score 43-36 in favor of the Wildcats.

The Knights opened up the final quarter with a layup from Kiley McNally to bring the game within five but Indiana Wesleyan fired off four baskets to extend the score 50-38. Olivia Faust attempted to fire back with a jumper but was quickly countered by a layup from the home team. Each side of the court continued to trade baskets with Abbey recording the layup for the Knights but the Wildcats were able to outscore with a three-pointer extending their lead 57-42. Both teams benefited off of fouls with Abbey McNally recording the baskets for Marian followed by a pair of layups and a free throw from Eva Fisher to bring the margin down to 10. The Wildcats were able to benefit off of a Marian foul to knock down two more free throws but Marian was able to go on a six basket streak only to be broken up by a singular free throw by Indian Wesleyan. In the run Bailey recorded a pair of layups and a free throw, Double recorded a layup, and Abbey recorded a pair of free throws. Indiana Wesleyan ended the game with a pair of free throws to record the 64-58 win over the Knights.

The Knights were led by Abbey McNally who recorded her 20th double-double of the season and 10th in a row with 19 points and 16 rebounds as well as two assists. Madisyn Bailey wasn't close behind in points with 11 and two rebounds and one assist. Kenna Kirby and Taylor Double each recorded three rebounds while Kirby recorded six points and Double recorded five. Kirby also led the team in assists with three. Kennedy Fuelling recorded six points in the game and Eva Fisher recorded five.
