Minnix's Walk-Off Caps Sweep of Taylor

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Marian softball team swept Taylor in Tuesday's double header to start off the final week of regular season play. The Knights secured a 4-2 win in game one and a 3-2 win in game two. Marian moves to 37-7 on the year and 27-5 in the Crossroads League.

Game 1 | Marian 4-2 Taylor
Much like the rest of the season the Knights defense and Olivia Stunkel's pitching was on point with three straight outs. The offense shined, striking first with Jenna Minnix reaching on a fielder's choice to score Abbey Hofmann on the play. Marian kept driving in runs with Hayley Greene driving in a run with a hit by pitch and Ally Malone driving in two with a single to center field to take the 4-0 lead.

Stunkel's pitching was on point in the second inning only giving up one hit while striking out two batters. After switching pitchers the Trojans held the Knights scoreless throughout the rest of the game only giving up three hits through the five innings.

Taylor was able to get on the board with a two-run home run into left center to bring Marian's lead down to two in the top of the fourth. Stunkel and the Knights defense were able to keep the Trojans at bay through the last three innings only giving up one hit to secure the 4-2 win.

Ally Malone led the Knights going 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs. Marian recorded five hits and four runs in the first game and drew three walks. In the circle Olivia Stunkel earned her 21st win pitching all seven innings striking out five batters and only gave up four hits.

Game 2 | Marian 3-2 Taylor
Both defenses kept each others offense at bay through the first inning. Macy Coan and the Knights defense recorded a quick three-up and three-down in the top of the second. Jenna Minnix got the Knights on board with a double into center field to score Grace Meyer. While in the process of a double steal, Minnix was able to get on the board to increase the lead 2-0.

The Trojans were able to strike with a double down the left field line with two runners on base to tie the game up 2-2. Each team held each other to no more runs scored before Minnix singled up the middle to score Lily Wendt and secure the 3-2 win in the bottom of the seventh.

Caroline Roop led the Knights going 2-2 from the plate with a double and a stolen base. Jenna Minnix (2-4) led the team in RBIs with two as well as a double. Grace Meyer led the Knights in hits with two doubles. In the circle Macy Coan led the team earning her 12th win pitching all seven innings giving up eight hits and struck out five batters.

Marian will be back in action on Friday for their last double header at home against Goshen with game one starting at 3 PM.
