INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - After two dominating wins over Goshen on Sunday afternoon the Marian softball team was crowned the 2025 Crossroads League Regular Season Co-Champions. The Knights are now 41-7 overall on the season and end their conference play at 31-5.
Game 1 | Marian 10-2 Goshen | 5 Innings
The Knights defense and
Olivia Stunkel's pitching was on point throughout the first three innings having three perfect innings only giving up one walk. Marian's offense on the other hand continued to be on fire throughout the game with
Lily Wendt grounding out to third to drive in
Abbey Hofmann in the first inning. Followed by
Hayley Greene kick-starting things in the second inning with a single into left center to score
Jenna Minnix to increase the lead 2-0. Greene benefited off of a wild pitch to tack on another run. Followed up by
Ally Malone benefiting off of Brook Knox's sacrifice fly to right to score Malone and extend the lead 4-0.
The Maple Leafs were able to hold the Knights scoreless in the bottom of the third leaving one on base and recording two more hits. In the top of the fourth Goshen was able to get a hold of the game and record two runs and bring the margin down to two. Marian fired back with a huge inning starting off with Malone singling to short stop to score Greene on the play. With bases twice the Knights drove in two more runs with back-to-back walks to extend their 7-2 lead.
Anna Pritchett took advantage of an error at third after Minnix's at-bat to extend the lead. With bases full once more Greene singled into left field, Wendt drove in another run for the Knights to end the scoring run with the 9-2 lead.
Marian got out of the fifth inning unscathed only giving up one hit to the Maple Leafs.
Mystic Means opened up the bottom of the fifth with a triple to left field. After Knox's fly out, Hofmann singled into left field to drive in Means and secure the 10-2 win in the fifth inning.
Hayley Greene led the way in game one going a perfect 3-3 from the plate with two RBIs and two runs as well as a double.
Ally Malone and
Mystic Means each went 2-3 from the plate with two runs each while Malone recorded a double and an RBI and Means recorded a triple.
Lily Wendt went 1-2 from the plate with two RBIs as well.
In the circle
Olivia Stunkel earned her 23rd win of the season only giving up four hits and two runs. Stunkel struck out six of her 20 batters faced and only gave up one walk.
Game 2 | Marian 8-1 Goshen
After holding Goshen to a clean inning Marian struck big in the bottom of the first with four singles, a double, and a walk.
Lily Wendt,
Jenna Minnix, and
Ally Malone each drove in one run while
Caroline Roop drove in two taking the 5-0 lead.
After three dry innings for each side the Maple Leafs got on the board with a single up the middle to score a runner and bring the game within four. Marian struck again in the fifth inning with
Grace Meyer recording a single to drive in Pritchett on the play. Minnix followed up with a double into left field to score Wendt, while Malone hit a sacrifice fly at the next at bat to score Meyer and end the game with the 8-1 win.
Jenna Minnix and
Anna Pritchett led the team going 2-3 from the plate with Minnix recording two RBIs and one run, while Pritchett recorded two runs.
Lily Wendt went 2-4 from the plate with two runs and one RBI.
Ally Malone and
Caroline Roop each recorded two RBI's in game two as well. In the circle
Macy Coan recorded the win pitching six innings giving up seven hits and only one run. Coan recorded three strikeouts and one walk in her outing.
Alayna Tesnar came in for the final inning giving up two hits and facing five batters.
The Knights are back in action for the start of Crossroads League Tournament play as they take on the lowest seed remaining on Wednesday, April 30th as they will play as the No. 1 seed starting at 3 PM in Upland, Ind.
