Kansas City, Mo. - The Marian football team gained ground in the latest Netting Professionals NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll, as the Knights moved from 21 to 19 in Monday's release of the second regular season rankings. The Knights are set to play No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan this Saturday.
The top-five in the NAIA remained the same, with Grand View claiming all 15 votes as the No. 1 team in the nation. Keiser, Benedictine, Morningside, and Indiana Wesleyan round out the top-five, while Georgetown (previous No. 6) fell out of the top-10, seeing St. Thomas join the upper teams in the NAIA.
Marian jumped two spots and remains the lone ranked team in the MSFA Midwest League, holding the 19 spot in the poll. Indiana Wesleyan is the lone ranked team in the Mideast League, remaining at five. Olivet Nazarene and St. Francis (IN) remain in the receiving votes group from the Midwest side, while Taylor is the only Mideast team receiving votes. St. Francis (IL) dropped out of the receiving votes category.
The national poll is for publicity purposes only and does not influence the selection process for national championship consideration. A panel of head coaches representing each conference and the Continental Athletic Conference (Independents) votes in the poll.
Marian and Indiana Wesleyan battle this Saturday from Ascension St. Vincent Field at 1:05 p.m.
