Indianapolis, Ind. - The number 16th ranked Knights bounced back from Wednesday nights loss with a big 5-1 win over (RV) Governors State Saturday afternoon. The Knights move to 5-1 on the season after the win.
In the first half the Knights offense dominated in shots recording 13 compared to the Jaguars three.
Samuel Wehaus recorded the first two opening shots followed up by
Gustavo Nunes recording an on target shot before Wehaus recorded two more on goal. Nunes and Wehaus continued to take chances each recording two more shots before Iarosalv Korablev recorded a pair of shots. Wehaus followed up with another shot on goal but came up short to Governors State's defense in goal. Korablev recorded one more shot but was saved by the Jaguars defense in goal before they recorded two shots on their own.
Rafael Zambrano recorded the final shot of the half but was blocked by the Jaguars ending the first half 0-0.
Marian opened the second half with
Donovan Doolittle taking a shot but ended a tad to the right. Governors State followed up with a wide shot but the Knights continued to bring the power with five more shots from Wehaus, and two from Doolittle and Nunes. Wehaus continued the push scoring a trio of goals recording a hat trick with assists from
Joao Antonio Rocha and two from Nunes. Only to be broken up by a goal from the Jaguars after Wehaus' second goal putting the Knights in the 3-1 lead. Each team took a shot with
Josh Wesseling recording the shot for Marian before
Matthew Loo recorded his first goal of the season in the 76th minute increasing the lead to three. Marian took three more shots with Zambrano recording two and Nunes recording one before Nunes recorded a goal with the assist of
Justin Kapp end the game with a 5-1 win.
Samuel Wehaus led the team in goals with three and shots with 11 and six on target.
Gustavo Nunes was not far behind with six shots, three on goal, one goal, and led the team in assists with two.
Rafael Zambrano recorded four shots while
Iaroslav Korablev and
Donovan Doolittle each recorded three.
Matthew Loo recorded one shot and one goal while
Josh Wesseling recorded two shots and
Justin Kapp recorded two shots and one assist. In goal
Mateo Garcia-Galan recorded two saves and his fifth win of the season.
Marian will be back in action on Wednesday, September 10th as they travel up to Elgin, Ill. to take on Judson University at 3 PM.
