Knights Shutout Lancers Saturday Evening

Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Marian men's soccer team recorded its fifth straight win after shutting out Grace Saturday evening. The Knights were led by junior Sam Wehaus, who recorded the only two goals of the match. After the win, Marian moves to 11-2-0 overall this season and 4-0-0 in the Crossroads League, holding strong and tied for first place in the League with Indiana Wesleyan.

The Knights opened up the match blazing hot, recording four shots with one on target before Grace was able to fire off a pair in the opening 15 minutes of play. Each team went back and forth for the next nine minutes, with Rafael Zambrano recording a shot that was saved by the Lancers goalie and Grace recording a shot saved by Tristan Edwards in goal. Marian was able to reach the back of the net for the first time in the match four minutes later, with a goal from Samuel Wehaus off a pass from Leonard Assouan to get on the board first. Assouan and Matthew Loo fired off back-to-back shots to attempt to increase the lead but fell just shy against Grace's defense. Loo kept attacking, recording two more shots before Wehaus reached the back of the net once more off a header to increase the lead to 2-0 going into halftime.

Marian came out of halftime with the offense fired up, recording seven shots, with one on goal and two blocked before Grace was able to gain control of the ball. The Lancers took control in the 76th minute of play, firing off a pair of shots with one saved by Edwards in goal. The Knights took three more attempts, with Wehaus and Zambrano recording a shot high and Loo falling short as the Lancers' defense got his shot blocked. Grace took one more strike in the 87th minute but came up short with Marian's defensive line blocking the shot, ending the match with a 2-0 shutout win.

Leonard Assouan and Rafael Zambrano also recorded multiple shots in the match with three apiece. Both Assouan and Josh Wesseling recorded an assist.
