Louisville, Ky. - The Marian women's tennis team stepped away from its NAIA slate to take on NCAA DI opponent Bellarmine on Friday, falling to the Knights in Louisville by a 6-1 score. Marian slides to 2-3 overall on their season following the loss.
The Knights were unsuccessful at doubles, losing two of the three matches in 6-0 matches.
Yasmin Imamniyazova and
Emma Chrome were winning at their match at No. 2 doubles as the point was clinched by Bellarmine, winning 3-2 with a 40-15 lead in game six.
Ana Barbosa Fernandez recorded Marian's lone win of the day, clinching a victory at No. 4 singles against Gracie Hurley. Barbosa won by a 6-2, 6-4 pair of scores.
Michelle Irigoyen was close at pulling out a win at No. 2 singles, but was bested by Marika Caruk 6-4, 7-5.
Marian returns to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Saint Francis in their Crossroads League opening match. First serve will be at 1:30 p.m., while the team will have its senior day ceremony at 12:45 p.m.
