Marian Dish Out a Pair of Run-Rule Wins

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Marian softball team swept Maple Leafs with a pair of run-rule wins Saturday afternoon. After the wins, Marian moves to 13-2 overall on the season and 5-1 in the Crossroads League.

Game 1 | Marian 10-0 Goshen
After a quick three-up three-down in the top of the first, the Knights got the bats rolling with Delaney Rundle bunting to score Abbey Hofmann and put the Knights up early. Marian continued to bring in the runs with a double from Mati Hughes to score Abby Madere and Rundle and increase the lead to three. Continuing to benefit from some struggles in the field, Marian scored three more runs with Hughes, Lily Wendt, and Mallorie Beutel all scoring.

With a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Marian continued to increase their lead with Madere walking with bases loaded to score Karly Anderson. In the next at-bat, Hughes smashed another double to score Rundle and Hofmann and increase the lead 9-0. After three scoreless innings for the Maple Leafs, Mallorie Beutel tattooed a double through the right side, and Ally Malone scored the 10th run of the day. Goshen attempted to put a run on the board with a single, but Marian was able to record three straight outs, taking the 10-0 in game one.

Delaney led the team, going 3-3 from the plate, tallying one RBI. Mati Hughes also led the way in RBIs with four; Hofmann, Madere, Beutel, Donaldson, and Anderson all recorded one. Hofmann and Beutel both recorded one double while Hughes recorded a pair. Rundle and Madere both recorded a stolen base. In the circle, Macy Coan took the win, pitching all five innings, only giving up three hits and recording three strikeouts.

Game 2 | Marian 10-2 Goshen
The Knights got off to a slower start in game two, not scoring until the third inning with Delaney Rundle singling to the shortstop, allowing Alex Kiemeyer to score. Goshen was quick to fight back with a single to score a runner, bringing the score 1-1. The Knights took back their lead with four runs off a pair of doubles from Kiemeyer and Hofmann.

With the Knights in the lead 5-1, the Maple Leafs fired off a double to bring in the runner and knock down Marian's lead to three. After a pair of dry innings, Marian was able to rack up five runs in the sixth inning, with Mallorie Beutel, Mystic Means, and Alex Kiemeyer all scoring, as well as Hofmann scoring off of Lily Wendt's walk-off double.

Abbey Hofmann led the Knights, going 2-4 from the plate and recording five RBIs. Alex Kiemeyer also recorded two RBIs, while Rundle, Wendt, and Means all recorded one RBI. Hofmann recorded two doubles while Wendt and Kiemeyer recorded one. Rundle also stole one base in the game. In the circle, Lexi Smith pitched all six innings and took the win, only giving up four hits and recording four strikeouts.

Marian will be back in action on Tuesday, March 17th, as they host Spring Arbor with game one starting at 3 PM and game two starting at 5 PM.
