INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian men's tennis team dropped its second match of the week on Friday afternoon, as Marian lost at its home away from home in the Healthplex by a 4-3 final to Goshen College. The loss is Marian's second consecutive, as the team falls to 8-6 overall on the year and 3-1 in Crossroads League play.
Goshen started the match by winning the doubles point, taking two of the three matches against Marian to secure a 1-0 match lead. Marian's lone win came at No. 1 where
Mateo Guerin and
James Ashworth were able to capture a 6-3 victory.
Marc Soriano and
Iyan Cresens lost 6-3 at No. 3 doubles, and at No. 2 doubles,
Ben O'Brien and Juan Garcia-Tunon were swept 6-0.
The Maple Leafs went up 2-0 as the singles matches started, winning at No. 2 as Timo Novak beat Mateo Gueirn 6-1, 6-4.
James Ashworth would get Marian on the board with his 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, but the Knights soon dropped the No. 3 singles match, as the Maple Leafs defeated
Marc Soriano 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Marian trailed 3-1 after the first three singles flights and would shortly after lose the match as Goshen clinched the contest with their win at No. 5, as Filippo Gallo knocked off Bogdan Precupsecu 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. The Knights would win at No. 4 and No. 6 with Marcos Ramos Cabrerea and Juan Garcia-Tunon claiming wins, but it was too late to alter the match decision, as Marian lost 4-3.
The Knights will aim to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon, as they travel to Georgetown College for a 1:00 p.m. match.
