Georgetown, Ky. - The Marian men's tennis team snapped its two-match losing skid on Sunday afternoon, defeating Georgetown College 6-1 in a non-conference match. Marian moves to 9-5 overall on the year following its win.
The Knights played from behind on Sunday, as the team lost the doubles point with the Tigers taking two of the three matches.
Marc Soriano and
Iyan Cresens scored Marian's lone win with their 6-0 victory against Dallas Baker and Rex Roof at No. 3, but the Tigers were able to tie the series as
James Ashworth and
Mateo Guerin lost to Leo Schirmer and Alex Stragier 6-4. Georgetown would clinch the point as they won at No. 2 doubles, with
Ben O'Briend and Juan Garcia-Tunon falling 7-6 (3) to Tom Dwyer and Zach Thompson.Â
Trailing 1-0, Marian had work to accomplish in singles, and were able to start on the right foot as
Mateo Guerin won 6-2, -62 against Schirmer at No. 1 singles.
Bogdan Precupescu followed with a similar victory, defeating Stragier 6-3, 6-2. Marian then took a 3-1 lead as
Marc Soriano won a three-set match against Thompson at No. 2 singles, winning 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (3).Â
Marian led 3-1 after Soriano's win, continuing to pick up wins on the court as Garcia-Tunon followed with 6-0, 6-0 win against Luke Curry at No. 5 to clinch the match. The singles sweep would continue as
Jan Bartolome won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6, and
Marcos Ramos Cabrera finished the afternoon with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Dwyer at No. 3.Â
Marian will aim to pick up a second win in as many days on Monday afternoon, as the team travels to No. 6 Lindsey Wilson for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
