Lexington, Ky. - The Marian men's golf team turned in its best performance of the spring season on Tuesday, completing a two-day tournament at the University Club of Kentucky in the Midway Eagle Invitational. Marian finished as the runner-up after losing on a three-hole playoff to Kentucky State, but finished with a 10-1 record against the field. Marian's
Weston Ogden headlined the team performance, finishing as the individual medalist.
The Knights fired a 290 in Monday's first round to take a seven-stroke lead on the field after day one, but fell against the wind in Tuesday's second round, carding a 303. Kentucky State was able to rally back and draw Marian with its 296 score in round two, forcing a playoff between the Knights and Thorobreds. The NCAA Division II foe would go on to win the playoff in three holes, upending Marian to take the team victory. Marian would finish as the runner-up, placing 24-strokes ahead of third-place finisher IU-East. Marian went 10-0 against NAIA foes, defeating fellow Crossroads League members Bethel, Huntington, and Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Individually,
Weston Ogden won a playoff to win the individual title, winning his second tournament of the season and the fourth of his career. Ogden fired a 72 in round one and 71 in the final round, ending with a 143 total.
Augie Mann and
Nolan Potter would finish on the all-tournament team, placing third and fourth, respectively. Mann shot a 147 (72+75) for the two days to finish third, while Potter carded a 148 (72+76) over the two days.
Brody Holubar finished 22nd with a 156 score, and
Lane Zedrick finished with a 159 score, placing 25th.
Peyton Butler played as an individual and scored a 174, firing a 91 and 83 over two rounds.
Marian will compete next at the Music City Classic, heading to Old Hickory, Tenn., with the women's team to compete in the annual event on March 13 and 14.
