Marion, Ind. - The Marian men's tennis team closed out the week with a 5-2 win at Indiana Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. After the win, Marian moves to 12-9 overall on the season and 5-3 in the Crossroads League.
Marian got off to an early lead with
Mateo Guerin and Juan Garcia-Tunon's doubles 6-2 win at court No. 2. The Wildcats fought back with a 6-4 win over James Asworth and
Jan Bartolome, tying the match up one a piece in the doubles section. Marian was able to prevail with a 6-4 win for
Marc Soriano and
Iyan Cresens at No. 3 and take the doubles point.
With the 1-0 lead
Bogdan Precupescu was fast to increase the Knights lead with his 6-0 and 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, followed by Bartolome's 6-3 and 6-1 win at court No. 5. Marian continued to increase their lead with a 6-3 and 6-0 win at No. 4 for Garcia-Tunon followed up with Guerin's 6-3 and 6-1 win at No. 3. With Marian in the lead 5-0, Indiana Wesleyan shot down the shut out with a hard fought 6-4 and 6-2 win over Asworth at No. 1 and a 6-3 and 6-2 win over Soriano at No. 2 but came up short of the upset with the Knights taking the 5-2 win.
The Knights will be back in action for the final regular-season match-up of the year as they take on Taylor in Upland, Ind., on Saturday, April 18th at 11 AM.
