Knights Split With Lancers in Midweek Matchup

Indianapolis, Ind. - In their final regular season match-up against Grace, the Knights split at home, falling in game one and winning in game two. After the double header, the Knights move to 25-12 overall on the season and 17-11 in the Crossroads League. 

Game 1 | Marian 3-10 Grace 
After holding the Lancers to three quick outs, holding the Lancers scoreless in the top of the first. The Knights struck first with a homer into center field from Abby Madere to score Delaney Rundle and take the 2-0 lead. Grace pushed back at Marian's lead with three runs in the top of the second to take the one run lead.

After a trio of dry innings, Mallorie Beutel grounded out to shortstop to score Mati Hughes and tie up the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Grace countered Marian's push with a grand slam to take back their lead by four. The Knights fought back with a single from Rundle to get on base, but came up short in the bottom of the sixth. The Lancers made their final push with a sacrifice fly into center field, followed up by a two-run double to extend their lead to seven. Marian attempted a final push with a single from Hughes and a fielder's choice from Mallorie Beutel, but came up short, leaving Beutel on base.

In game one, Mati Hughes and Lily Wendt led the way, each going 2-4 from the plate. Abby Madere led the way in RBIs with two, while Mallorie Beutel had one. Lexi Smith earned the start in game one, pitching the first three innings, then going in as relief for two, striking out four batters in her 27 faced. Alayna Tesnar came in as relief and was the pitcher of record, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out one batter. Lauren Mayer was the final pitcher to go in, facing four batters in her appearance. 

Game 2 | Marian 7-1 Grace
Unlike game one, game two had a pair of dry innings for each team to open up play. The Lancers struck first at the top of the third with a solo home run to center field to take a one-run lead. Delaney Rundle quickly answered with a single to left field to score Mallorie Beutel, followed by Rundle advancing to second on the error from the center field, and Abbey Hofmann scoring on the error, extending the lead 3-1.

After holding the game scoreless for the next two innings for both teams, Marian struck again with a double into left field from Mati Hughes to score Rundle. Lily Wendt was able to follow up with a single through the left side, scoring Jaelyn Phillips and Abby Madere. Ally Malone made one last strike with a double into right field to score Wendt and extend the lead to six. Grace attempted a push in the top of the seventh with a single, but Marian's defense was able to record three straight strikes to take the 7-1 win in game two.

Abby Madere led the way in game two, going 2-3 from the plate and driving in one RBI. Delaney Rundle, Mati Hughes, Lily Wendt, and Ally Malone all recorded one RBI as well. In the circle, Macy Coan took the start and her 11th win of the season, pitching all seven innings and striking out four batters.

The Knights will be back in action on the road this weekend as they start at Bethel on Friday, April 17th, with game one starting at 3 PM.
