INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's tennis team rolled to its fifth consecutive win on Wednesday afternoon, shutting out (RV) Oakland City 4-0 in the team's final non-conference match of the season. Marian's victory gives the team a 12-6 overall record on the season.
Marian opened doubles play with the first point of the match, getting two of the three wins against the Mighty Oaks.
Yasmin Imamniyazova and
Ana Lopez Torres earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Mighty Oaks would answer with a win at No. 2 as
Michelle Irigoyen and
Jimena Rivera Flores were defeated 6-3. With the point relying on the No. 3 duo of
Liliane Alinquant and
Ana Barbosa Fernandez, the Marian pair battled from behind to score a 6-3 win against Fabienne Nowak and Melissa de Jong, giving Marian the first point of the match and a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Knights rolled through the Oakland City lineup, getting wins at No. 2, 3, and 4 singles, pushing Marian to a victory.
Ana Lopez Torres won in three sets at No. 2 against Berta Ladaga Auge 6-2, 1-6, 6-0, and at No. 3,
Michelle Irigoyen won by a 7-5, 6-1 count.
Ana Barbosa Fernandez won at No. 4 singles, helping clinch the 4-0 victory with her 6-4, 6-3 win against Maria Trembach.Â
At No. 1 singles, Yasmin Imamaniyazova went unfinished, leading her head-to-head against Silvia Fernandez de la Pradilla 6-4, 3-3.Â
Marian is scheduled to finish its regular season on Saturday at Taylor University. Marian will be the one seed in the Crossroads League Tournament next week.Â
