Lacrosse Earns Share of WHAC Regular Season Title After Senior Day Win

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Marian women's lacrosse team took the 13-9 win over Lawrence Tech, claiming a share of the WHAC Regular Season Title. After the win, the Knights move to 10-3 on the season and 8-1 in the WHAC going into the final week of the regular season.

Marian struck first at the eight-minute mark as Rylie Boezeman struck with the assist from Ruby Mason to take the early lead. The Knights' defense continued to attack, holding the Blue Devils scoreless before Delaney Koles got on the board with the assist from Ella Grace Giedd, extending the lead. Alex Dean quickly followed up with a draw control before Giedd fired off the final goal of the quarter to extend the lead 3-0.

Lawrence Tech got on the board early in the second quarter with a goal in the opening two minutes, followed by another one two minutes later, bringing the Knights' lead down to one. Marian countered with a goal from Allyson Cissell less than a minute later, extending the lead 4-2. The Blue Devils pushed back with an unassisted goal at the eight-minute mark, but Mason quickly followed up to extend the margin back to two. Both teams were able to hold each other scoreless for the majority of the remaining minutes before Lawrence Tech struck again off a free position shot. Giedd fired off a goal from a free position shot to end the quarter with a 6-4 lead.

Out of the half, Mason extended the lead with an assisted goal from Giedd. Lawrence Tech countered with a goal, knocking Marian's lead down to two. The Knights quickly followed up with a pair of goals from Rylie Boezeman and Koles to extend their lead to four. After winning the draw control, the Blue Devils pushed back one final time before the end of the quarter to bring the score to 9-6.

After back-and-forth action for the opening five minutes of the final quarter, Cissell scored off a free position shot, extending the lead back to four. A minute later, Lawrence Tech pushed back, benefiting from a foul by the Knights to score off a free position shot, but Ezbeydi Montes was able to quickly counter with another goal off a free position shot, extending the lead 11-7. The Blue Devils continued to fight back with a goal, but Giedd quickly countered with an unassisted goal. In the final two minutes of the game, Lawrence Tech fired off its final goal of the game, but Mason was able to close out the game with a goal in the final minute of the game, ending the game with a 13-9 win. 

Ruby Mason and Ella Grace Giedd led the way, each recording a hat trick, while Giedd led the way in assists with four, while Mason recorded a pair. Allyson Cissell, Rylie Boezeman, and Delaney Koles each recorded a brace in the win. Giedd, Esbeydi Montes, Alex Dean, Aniyah Jones, and Marissa Bardo all led the way in ground ball recoveries with three apiece. Olivia Dean led the way with seven caused turnovers, while Alex Dean caused three. Alex Dean and Esbeydi Montes led the way in draw controls with four each, while Mason and Boezeman each recorded three.

In goal, Marissa Bardo took the start playing for the first half and recording four saves while recording her first win of the season. Aniyah Jones came in as relief for the second half, saving six shots.

Marian will be back in action next Saturday as they travel up to Bethel University for their final regular-season game, with the first draw set for 10 AM.
