NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Marian men's golf team returned to its winning ways for the first time since September 23 on Monday afternoon, as the Knights earned their fourth overall win and first of the spring at the IWU Sagamore Shootout. Marian's first win of the spring was headlined by
Lane Zedrick returning to the podium as the individual winner.
Marian's win in Monday's 36-hole shootout started with the team scoring a 292 in round one, sitting two strokes behind Taylor on the team leaderboard. Marian would make up the two shots in the second round and made a strong charge, firing a 286 as a team to score a total of 578 for the day. Taylor crumbled in the final round, firing a 303, giving Marian plenty of cushion as they won the event over Taylor by 15 strokes.
IU-East finished third, while Spring Arbor was fourth. Marian was the winner among the eight varsity teams that were entered in the field. The Knights' B-lineup finished fifth overall with a 612, defeating four different varsity programs.
Lane Zedrick led the Knights to record his first win of the season, firing a 140 over the two rounds. Zedrick scored a 69 and 71 in his winning rounds.
Augie Mann finished three strokes behind Zedrick, shooting a 143 for the two rounds with a score set of 73 and 70.
Weston Ogden finished tied for sixth with his 147 score, logging a 76 and 71 for his two rounds.
Brody Holubar completed the team scoring, carding two 74's to finish with a 148 total and eighth place finish.
Nolan Potter completed the primary lineup tying for 21st, scoring an 80 and 74 to shoot a 154.
The reserve lineup was led by
Kai Warner, who shot a 147 on the day with a 75 and 72 for his two rounds.
James Beetz finished 12th with a 150 score (72+78) and
Peyton Butler shot a 160 (83+77) to finish 34th.
Drew Hardin scored a 161, and
Drew Werkley shot a 162.
Marian competes next week at the Crossroads League Tournament, hosted at Coyote Crossing in West Lafayette.
