WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After rain soaked the course on Monday and halted play, the Marian men's golf team attacked the course at Coyote Crossing on Tuesday, fending off Taylor University to complete a wire-to-wire Crossroads League Championship, bringing home the title for the fourth consecutive year. Marian's team championship was headlined by
Lane Zedrick's second-straight individual victory, as the junior earned the individual medalist at the CL Championship for the second time in his career.
In Monday's first round, the Knights battled throughout the day for the lead with their playing partners, Taylor and Indiana Wesleyan, as the three teams separated themselves and pulled away from the pack. Play was suspended with the three schools tied for first, needing four holes to finish round one. At the conclusion of the round on Tuesday morning, the Knights dialed in, getting a five-stroke lead on Taylor to take first place outright entering the final round. Marian scored a 289 in round one, followed by Taylor's 294 and Indiana Wesleyan's 301.
In the second round, Marian had to protect its lead as Taylor put pressure on the Knights, with the two teams trading the share of the lead throughout the afternoon. Marian was able to get the edge back in the late stages of the second round, and cap off the championship with a strong finish from
Lane Zedrick and
Weston Ogden, with the two upperclassmen finishing the final four holes a combined -2, breaking the tie with Taylor and ending the championship with a two-stroke lead. The Knights ended the second round with a 297 to finish with a 586, as their team total edged out Taylor, who finished with a 588.
Indiana Wesleyan finished third overall in the championship, followed by Grace, Huntington, and Mount Vernon Nazarene, who finished fourth through fifth. Spring Arbor, Bethel, and Saint Francis rounded out the field in seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.
Individually,
Lane Zedrick led Marian at the time of the suspension of play, carrying a 54 through 14 holes to sit in third place. Zedrick would finish round one with a 69 on his scorecard, firing the second-best score of the round with IWU's Sam Dykema to stay with the leader, Carter Hall (66, Huntington). Hall faded in the second round, opening the door for Zedrick to go low and take the lead. An early eagle for the Marian junior helped his cause and allowed the third-year golfer to take the lead, which he would hold on to for the duration of the final round. Zedrick's final round of 68 brought his week's total to 137, as he shot three birdies and one eagle in the last 18 holes of the week, taking the individual championship title.
Weston Ogden was in fifth at the halt with a 56 and four holes to play, and eventually finished with a 71 in the first round. Ogden would finish with an even 72 in the final round, gaining two spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for third and earn All-Crossroads League honors. The Knights' lineup would be followed by
Nolan Potter's 19th-place finish as the senior scored a 154 total (74+80), and both
Augie Mann and Brody Holuabr finished tied for 21st, scoring a 156. Mann shot a 75 and 81 in his two rounds, while Holubar shot a 79 and 77.
Marian's championship automatically qualifies the Knights for the 2026 NAIA National Championship, which takes place May 12-15 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. The championship field will be announced on Friday, May 1, at 4:00 p.m.
