Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Marian softball team fell to Saint Francis in game four of the Crossroads League Tournament. After the loss, the Knights move to 32-15 overall on the season and move into the elimination bracket.
Both the Knights and Cougars had a dry four innings, holding each other scoreless until Marian was able to strike.
Abby Madere grounded out to second and allowed
Abbey Hofmann to score on the play and take the 1-0 lead. The Knights' defense held the Cougars to three quick outs.
After a dry inning for Marian, Saint Francis struck big in the bottom of the sixth with a double, a pair of home runs, and a single to take the four-run lead. The Knights attempted to push back with
Delaney Rundle reaching base on an error, Madere singling, and
Mati Hughes walking, but Marian was unable to chip away at the Cougars' lead, falling 5-1.
Abbey Hofmann and
Lily Wendt led the way, each going 2-4 from the plate while
Abby Madere drove in the only RBI. In the circle,
Macy Coan took the start, pitching 5.1 innings, striking out three batters.
Lexi Smith came in as relief, facing six batters and striking out one.
Marian will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Taylor University at 12 PM in an elimination battle.
