The Knightcap: Week of Sept. 28

Happy fall, Knights! Welcome to this week's edition of The Knightcap, where each week, you can catch up on what you may have missed in the world of Marian Athletics last week and preview what's ahead for the Knights this week.
 
AT HOME THIS WEEK

MEN'S GOLF
Marian Men's Golf placed in a tie for fifth at the prestigious Northwest Iowa National Invite in Le Mars, Iowa on Monday and Tuesday.
 
Sophomore Drew Werkley was the top finisher for the Knights, placing in a tie for eighth with a seven-under 206. He earned Crossroads League Men's Golfer of the Week honors for the effort.
 
MEN'S TENNIS
Marian Men's Tennis competed at the ITA NAIA Midwest Regional tournament this past week at Marion, Ind.
 
Freshman David Deumer reached the semifinal of the Men's Singles open, while Deumer and teammate James Ashworth made the semifinals on the Men's Doubles side.
 
The men head to the south side this weekend for the UIndy Fall Tournament in their final action of the fall season.
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Marian Women's Tennis also competed in the ITA NAIA Midwest Regional tournament at Indiana Wesleyan.
 
Senior Michelle Irigoyen won the Women's Singles open final over teammate Marie Fairier in an All-Marian showdown. On the doubles side, Ainara Martinez Grande and Jimena Rivera Flores came out victorious with a win in the regional final.
 
The Knights also head to UIndy to compete in their fall invitational this weekend.
 
MEN'S SOCCER
Marian Men's Soccer went 2-0 in Crossroads League play, defeating Huntington on the road, 3-2, behind Eduardo Rivera's 86th-minute game-winner. The Knights cruised to an 8-1 win at home over Goshen.
 
This week, the Knights continue the homestand with games on Wednesday and Saturday at Ascension St. Vincent Field. They host Mount Vernon Nazarene at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 23rd-ranked Grace on Saturday, streamed live on the ISC Sports Network.
 
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Marian Women's Soccer also went 2-0 across Crossroads League action this week, besting Huntington 2-1 on Senior Night on Wednesday before topping Goshen on the road, 4-0.
 
The Knights remain on the road this week, heading to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday before a top-10 showdown with 8th-ranked Grace at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
 
VOLLEYBALL
Marian Volleyball fell at home in a three-set sweep to 13th-ranked Taylor on Wednesday before bouncing back with a sweep of Huntington at home on Saturday.
 
The Knights also travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday, facing the 19th-ranked Cougars at 7 p.m.
 
RUGBY
Marian Rugby received a win via forfeit in the Big Rivers Rugby Conference opener to a Thomas More squad riddled with injuries.
 
The Knights face Indiana University on Saturday, playing in Memorial Stadium in Bloomington on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
 
BOWLING
Marian Bowling kicks off its 2026-27 season this weekend, competing in the Midwest Collegiate Championships hosted by Lawrence Tech University on Saturday and Sunday.
 
FOOTBALL
Marian Football returns from its break in action, hosting Taylor University for its Gold Rush game on Saturday. Kickoff with the Trojans is set for 1:05 p.m.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

This Saturday is a Gold Rush at Ascension St. Vincent Field! Wear your gold and come support the Knights as Marian Football takes on Taylor University at 1:05 p.m. Students are also invited to stop by Knight Village, located between Doyle Hall and University Hall, before the game. The student tailgate opens at 10:30 a.m. and will feature snacks, music, and performances from Marian Knight Dancers and Cheer. Come out early, bring the energy and help us create a great gameday atmosphere before kickoff!
