Mount Vernon, Ohio —- The Marian University Volleyball team fell in straight sets to 19th-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene in Crossroads League action on Wednesday evening to mark the halfway point of conference play.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Mount Vernon Nazarene recorded 39 kills to Marian's 33
- The Cougars held a 6-4 edge in aces
- MVNU led 8-4 in blocks
- Marian registered 46 digs to MVNU's 45
- The Cougars hit .263, while the Knights hit .140

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Mount Vernon Nazarene jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the opening set
- Four Cougar errors helped the Knights take five of six points to regain the lead
- The teams were tied at 21, but MVNU logged the final four points to take the opening set
SECOND SET
- The Cougars claimed an early 8-3 lead in the second set
- MVNU led 18-8, forcing Marian to take its second timeout
- Kills from Dryden and Cook bookended a four-point Marian run; the Knights would pull all the way to within four at 20-16
- The Cougars fended off the Marian run to take set two, 25-20
THIRD SET
- MVNU took the first six points and 10 of the first 11 points of set three
- Schade and Cook combined on kills as MU battled back to within five
- The Knights got within 18-14, but the Cougars closed out the match in three
