Parkville, Mo. — The Marian University volleyball team rolled past Central Baptist, but fell in a hardfought five-set matchup with host Park to split the final doubleheader of the regular season on Friday in day one of the Park Labor Day Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- The teams traded points in the early going before Park took eight of nine rallies to take a 19-13 lead
- The Knights were able to pull within three points at four different points the rest of the set, but could not get any closer as the Pirates took the opening frame
SECOND SET
- Park led 11-3 early on in the second set
- Two kills from Schade in a four-point Marian run helped cut the deficit to 12-8
- The Pirates led 21-12 on their way to taking the second set
THIRD SET
- The Knights rattled off eight straight points on
Emerson Evans' service, which included two aces to lead 13-5 in the third
- Park scored four straight on Marian's set point, but Cook put an end to the Pirates' run with a kill
FOURTH SET
- Marian jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth before Park tied the fourth set at 6
- Dart and Schade combined on kills to lead 15-9, but a run of five straight Pirate points forced a Marian timeout
- Cook came up with kills when the set was tied at 21-21 and 22-22 to keep the Knights in front
- A service error sent the match to a decisive fifth set
FIFTH SET
- Park took an early 4-1 lead in the fifth, but a Dryden kill and a Wohler ace helped tie the final set at 5
- Park's Kennedy Altic recorded three straight kills to give the Pirates a cushion, but a Cook kill and a pair of errors got Marian right back in it, trailing 11-10
- A pair of Schade kills and another kill from Dryden kept the Knights within striking distance, but Park clinched the match on a service error
