BIO

  • Head coach Todd Bacon is entering his ninth season at the helm of the Marian baseball program. He became the seventh head coach in program history in the 2014 season.
  • In 2022 Bacon led the Knights to a 27-27 overall record, with Marian placing sixth in the Crossroads League regular season and fourth in the league tournament, going 2-2 in the CL Tourney.
  • Under Bacon's leadership, Marian had five All-Crossroads League honors, highlighted by Matteo Porcellato's First Team All-League honor. JJ Rivera and Bryce Davenport earned Second Team honors, and Rivera and Dion Wintjes were named to the Gold Glove team. 
  • Marian had three CL Player of the Week honors in 2022 under Bacon. 
  • In 2022 the Marian baseball team broke seven team records, with Bacon's ninth team setting the program records for At-Bats, Runs, Hits, Home Runs, RBI, Total Bases, and Stolen Bases.
  • In addition to the team records, JJ Rivera set the single season doubles record under Bacon, as the first year Knight hit 25 doubles. 
  • In 2021 Bacon led Marian to a 25-29 overall record, leading Marian to a sixth place finish in the Crossroads League in the regular season and the third round of the Crossroads League Tournament in the elimination bracket.
  • Bacon's squad carried a .262 batting average and a team ERA of .518 in 2021, coaching three Knights that earned All-Crossroads League Honorable Mention honors, while Hironori Kato earned Gold Glove Team honors. 
  • Marian had four Crossroads League Player of the Week honors under Bacon's leadership in 2021. 
  • Led Marian to a win over No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan in the series opener.
  • Bacon led Marian to a 10-9 record in the COVID-19 shortened season in 2020. The Knights had a three player of the week winners in 2020, and held a .303 team batting average.
  • In his sixth season in 2019, the Knights reached the NAIA Tournament Opening Round for the third straight season under head coach Todd Bacon. Marian went 30-21 in 2019, and won the Crossroads League Tournament for the second straight season. 
  • The Knights earned their sixth straight scholar team award in 2018-19 under Bacon. 
  • Bacon led the Knights to their second-straight appearance in the NAIA National Tournament in 2018. The Knights finished 24-27 and won the Crossroads League Tournament for the first time in program history. Bacon's team ranked in the top 50 in the country and seven different categories.
  • In 2017 Coach Bacon led the Knights to their best season in program history, leading MU to their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance. The Knights finished the season with a 30-23 record, taking the runner-up spot in the Crossroads League Tournament. 
  • Prior to his current position, Bacon was an assistant coach for the prior five years working primarily with the pitchers and catchers.
     
  • In his first two seasons, he has guided the Knights to a 35-46 overall record with a 30-33 mark in the Crossroads League. In 2015, he guided MU to its first winning season in the league since the 2011 campaign.
     
  • His career at Marian University extends back to 2003. He served as the head women's basketball coach from 2003 until the end of the 2012-13 season.
     
  • In his time as head women's basketball coach, Bacon amassed a 177-117 career record and guided the Knights to their first-ever NAIA national tournament appearance in 2010-11.
     
  • During the 2010-11 campaign, the Knights set the school record for victories and garnered the program's first-ever 20-win season. The Knights finished 23-8 and earned a berth in the second round of the national tournament.
     
  • The Knights spent nine of his 10 seasons ranked inside the top 25 during each season and was the 2010-11 MCC regular season runner-up and 2009-10 MCC Tournament runner-up.
     
  • Bacon's women's basketball teams were notorious for their relentless pressure on defense and, in 2010-11, finished with the nation's top field goal percentage defense.
     
  • Also during his stint as head women's coach, Bacon served as head men's and women's tennis coach.
     
  • He guided the men's team to two league championships (2005-06, 2006-07) and was named the 2005-06 Mid-Central College Conference Coach of the Year. His 53-19 career record and .736 winning percentage was a program best.
     
  • As women's coach, the Knights were two-time NAIA Region VIII Tournament participants and registered a 51-25 record under his tutelage.
     
  • Prior to Marian University, Bacon served as head men's basketball coach, head baseball coach (1997-00) and director of athletics at Goshen College. He spent 1994-2000 as head men's basketball coach and guided the Leafs to their first two postseason wins in program history.
     
  • As a student, Bacon played baseball and basketball at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. He lettered all four years in both sports from 1987-90.
     
  • In basketball, Bacon was the 1989 team most valuable player and still holds the school record for 3-pointers made in a season.
     
  • In baseball, he was the team MVP in 1988 and 1990. In 1989, he was part of the Collegiate Athletic Conference championship team and led the Quakers in batting average during his senior season.
     
  • He graduated from Earlham College in 1990.
     
  • In high school, Bacon was part of a final sixteen team in 1983 and still holds the school record for points in a game (48) and field goals in a game (22).
     
  • Bacon is married with four children and the family resides in Crawfordsville, Ind. Son Maverick played two seasons at Marian on the baseball team.
