BIO

  • Owning a wide knowledge of the defensive game, Stinn is entering his sixth year on the Marian coaching staff, joining the Knights as a coach in 2016. 2021 marks his first year serving as the defensive coordinator.
  • On July 29, 2021, Stinn was promoted to the defensive coordinator, taking over the role previously held by David Elson. Stinn served as the defensive line coach prior to elevating to the coordinator role.
  • In his first season as coordinator, Stinn's defense ranked No. 9 in the NAIA in yards allowed per game, and ranked No. 1 in sacks with 47 in 12 games. Tyler Bukur and Chamaar Smith were among the NAIA leaders in sacks, while Sir'Zion Dance ranked as one of the top tacklers in the nation. Dance and Bukur, along with Krys Oakley, Tyler Majors, Ricky Kwak, and Dom Small, all earned MSFA honors under Stinn's leadership in 2021.
  • In his first five years on the defensive staff, Stinn has coached seven different players that have earned All-MSFA honors, including Dutra who was a two-time first team winner and a 2019 NAIA All-American honoree. In addition to his duties with the defense, Stinn had been the Knights' equipment manager from 2018 through 2021, and was the supervisor for film and student managers.
  • Stinn began his collegiate coaching career working with the outside linebackers in 2016 and 2017, and in 2018 was made a full-time assistant. After taking on the full-time role, Stinn switched positions to the defensive line, coaching the unit in both 2018 and 2019. As the defensive line coach, Marian's defense ranked top-10 in the NAIA in sacks, with the Knights finishing eighth in 2018 and sixth in 2019. Stinn developed the 2018 MSFA Defensive Player of the Year Chad Scaggs, and also coached Marian's all-time leader in sacks Mac Dutra. Stinn switched positions prior to the start of the 2020 season, moving to his playing position as the safeties coach where he coached Ricky Kwak to MSFA Mideast Second Team honors.
  • Stinn also spent three seasons as a volunteer assistant with the women's lacrosse team at Marian, working with the team during their first NAIA National Invitational appearance in 2019.
  • Stinn earned his bachelor's degree from Marian University in 2015 majoring in accounting and finance. The former Marian student-athlete was a member of the Marian football team from 2010-2014, and was a two-year starter who started at safety as a member of the 2012 NAIA National Championship team. Stinn helped the Knights to three MSFA Mideast titles in his playing days, and earned three MSFA All-Academic team honors.
  • After graduation Stinn worked at Somerset CPAs as a staff accountant while also coaching the defensive backs at Lebanon High School in 2015 before returning to Marian as an assistant coach.
  • Tyler and his wife, Bri, reside in Speedway with their son, Tymon.
