Jesse McClung returned to the Marian coaching staff as a member of Scott Heady's staff, and is in his sixth season as the associate head coach under Heady in 2022-23. McClung spent three seasons previously as an assistant coach for the Knights from 2008-11 under coach John Grimes.
McClung started his playing career at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. Barton ranked as high as No. 1 in the country. McClung was a starter, team captain, and led the team in assists. In his time there, Barton won West Division Jayhawk conference in the 2001-2002 season.
He continued his playing career at Ball State University for his next two years of college. In his time with the Cardinals he won both Defensive Player of the Year and team’s “Spark” award. He graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications.
He rounded out his playing career and last year of eligibility at the University of Indianapolis. In his time with the Greyhounds, McClung was the leading scorer. One of the highlights of the season was when McClung scored 27 points in 22 minutes against the No. 1 team in Division II, St. Joseph’s College. McClung won the Athletic Department’s Angus Nicoson Award for Extra Curricular Activities in the Community in the 2006-2007 season. He finished his coursework requirements for a Masters of Arts in Applied Sociology at the University of Indianapolis.
Following his stint at Marian, McClung served as an assistant coach at Wabash College from 2011-14. While there, he recruited back-to-back conference newcomer of the year while playing a vital role in the Little Giants' coaching staff as lead recruiting coordinator. In addition to being the recruiting coordinator, McClung helped in the scouting of opponents, breaking down film, on floor instruction and monitors academics. McClung was then named the head coach of the Bethesda Christian High School boys' varsity team and led BCHS to the No. 8 ranking in Class 1A. He returned the Patriots back to winning status as he compiled a 38-13 record over two winning seasons. McClung was the first Coach in BCHS history to have a player invited to the “Indiana Hoosier Top 100 Magazine” showcase.
McClung has been an Elite basketball trainer and Coach at Indiana Basketball Academy for eight years, which is owned and operated by former Indiana Hoosier, Tom Abernathy. Abernathy was on the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers team that won the national title. McClung has also coached AAU for various Indiana programs. After competing at the University of Indianapolis, McClung started his coaching career as a grad assistant under Todd Sturgeon and legendary Coach, Royce Waltman.
In high school, McClung was a three-year starter for Lawrence North High School. He was named to the Indianapolis Super Team, and also invited to the Top 60 workout for the state of Indiana.
McClung resides in Fishers with his wife Brooke and daughter Paige.
