Kyla Thomas

Kyla Montgomery Thomas has over 15 years coaching experience at all levels.  Her collegiate coaching experience includes Assistant Coach at Marian University in 2012 and 2013 and at Lakeland Community College (IL) prior to that.  Most recently, as a varsity head coach, Kyla led the Heritage Christian Eagles to their first State Championship in 2019 and final four in 2020, having coached multiple players that went on to play collegiately.  

Other coaching positions included 4 years as Varsity Head Coach at Lawrence Central High School, leading them to their best record in over 12 years.  While there, she also started Rising Stars feeder club for youth ages 8 to 14.  Prior to that, Kyla was the Varsity Head Coach at Broad Ripple High School (volleyball and softball) for 5 years.  She has coached multiple teams at The Academy Volleyball Club since 2014.

Kyla played volleyball and softball at Kentucky Wesleyan College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.  She later earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary/ Urban Education from IUPUI.   Kyla is a graduate of Neoga HS (Illinois).  

Kyla is currently in her 12th year as a Professor and Director of the Health and Physical Education  program with Klipsch Educators College at Marian University, where she is also pursuing her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership.  She resides in Indianapolis with her husband and son.
