BIO

  • Hired on May 24, 2021, Steve Brooks enters his 23rd season as a women's basketball head coach and the third as the head coach of the Marian Knights.
  • In the 2022-23 season, Brooks led the Knights to a 29-6 overall record and 15-3 Crossroads League record, reaching the NAIA Quarterfinals. 
  • Brooks coached Ella Collier who had a record breaking season. Collier was named the 2022-23 NAIA National Player of the Year, Crossroads League Player of the Year, and the WBCA National Player of the Year. Collier has continued to climb the scoring lists, rising to third all-time with 1594 total points. 
  • Brooks had four players honored with Crossroads League honors in the 2022-23 season, as Ella Collier, Allison Bosse, Abbey McNally, and Aliyah Evans were all recognized by the league. Collier and Bosse were named to the First Team, while McNally was named Freshman of the Year and on the All-CL Second Team, and Evans was Honorable Mention. 
  • Had seven players earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in the 2022-23 season. 
  • In his first season at Marian in 2021-22, Brooks continued the Knights' dominance of the Crossroads League by leading the Knights to a 17-1 record and the program's seventh straight Crossroads League Championship. The Knights were 30-5 in his first season at MU, reaching the NAIA Quarterfinals. 
  • Named the Crossroads League Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his career and first at Marian, Brooks had two players earn NAIA All-American, coaching Imani Guy to First Team honors and Ella Collier to Second Team Honors. Guy was named the Crossroads League Player of the Year and a WBCA First Team All-American, and Collier also earned First Team honors in the Crossroads League.
  • Brooks guided Abby Downard to finish her career as the all-time leader in steals and the No. 4 scorer in program history, coaching her to the Crossroads League First Team as a fifth-year senior. Brooks also molded Kinnidy Garrard into one of the nation's best shot blockers, as she set a single season blocks record while earning Crossroads League Defensive Player of the Year.
  • The final member of his starting five, Allison Bosse, earned Crossroads League Defensive Team and All-CL Honorable Mention honors. 
  • Brooks' first team at Marian ranked No. 6 in the NAIA in Net Efficiency, No. 1 in field goal percentage, and No. 7 in blocks per game. Additionally, the Knights ranked No. 2 in the NAIA in three point field goal percentage and No. 7 in Offensive Efficiency.
  • Prior to Marian, Brooks served as the head coach at the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) from 2017-2021, leading the Fighting Saints to 98 wins in four seasons. While there, USF reached the NAIA national tournament every season, advancing to the quarterfinal in 2018, and reaching the round of 16 on three occasions. Brooks led the Fighting Saints to a third place finish or better in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference each year, with USF claiming the CCAC regular season championship and a #17 NAIA Division II ranking in the 2018-19 season. In the 2019-20 season, Brooks led USF to a CCAC conference tournament championship, 18-2 CCAC regular season record, and #8 national ranking. Brooks was named CCAC Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2021. USF produced six NAIA All-Americans, 17 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, nine CCAC All-Conference selections, and one CCAC Player of the Year under his leadership.
  • At Indiana Wesleyan University, Brooks and the Wildcats won the NAIA Division II national championship in 2007 and 2013. The 2007 team recorded a perfect 38-0 record, becoming the first team in NAIA Women's Basketball Division II history to do so. The Wildcats won 56 consecutive games from 2007-2008, holding the #1 national ranking for a NAIA DII record 37 weeks. He was named WBCA/NAIA National Coach of the Year twice, in 2007 and 2012.
  • Indiana Wesleyan racked up 10 Crossroads League/Mid-Central Conference regular season championships and six tournament titles with Brooks at the helm, reaching the NAIA national tournament in 14 consecutive seasons. Brooks' success in the Crossroads League during his time at IWU went unmatched, as he recorded a 212-61 record against conference foes, and was named CL/MCC Coach of the Year seven times. There, Brooks coached 15 NAIA All-Americans, 22 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, and 25 all-conference players.
  • Brooks coached on the men's side as an assistant at Taylor University (1983-86, 1993-99) and head coach at Houghton College in New York (1986-93). He also served as Taylor University's Assistant Athletic Director (1993-96, 1997-99) and Interim Athletic Director (1996-97). Brooks graduated from Taylor University in 1980.
