INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 3 Marian women's soccer team got the senior night win under the lights Saturday night at St. Vincent Field. The Knights came away with the 4-1 win over the Pilots to continue their unbeaten start to the season. With the win, Marian moves to 3-0 in Crossroads League play and 10-0-1 overall.
Right from the start this game was all Marian as they started out controlling the majority of the possession in the first half. The Knights erupted for 15 first half shots with eight different seniors having at least one shot attempt. It was only fitting a senior would be the one to score the first goal of the night. At the 12:21 mark Erin Oleksak found Allie Schlom in the box to put the Knights up 1-0 early in the game. Although Marian got out to a hot start, Bethel answered with a goal of their own around four minutes later by Alexis Vega after getting through the defense.
Oleksak wasted no time, as she answered back with a breakaway goal, before later in the half when she booted one past the Bethel keeper in the 37th minute off the assist from Maya Decker to give the Knights the 3-1 lead going into the break. The Pilots struggled to find their offense in the first half, only able to put up three shot attempts with two on goal.
Marian continued to bring their offensive tear in the second half, as they went on to out shoot themselves from the first half by taking 19 shot attempts in the half. Bethel had no answer for the aggressive offense shown by Marian, as seven different Knights notched a shot in the half. The hosts saw many good looks throughout the early goings of the half, but it wasn't until late when Oleksak scored at the 83:40 mark for the hat trick.
The Knights could not be stopped in tonight's game, shooting a season-high 34 shots. Oleksak led the way for Marian with a hat trick, 11 shots and one assist. Schlom was the other goal for the Knights while adding six shots. Jacelyn Smith added four shots, while Naomi Walters and Decker each added three, and Isabelle Stanfield had two. Other Knights taking shot attempts were Ryli John, Natalie Prena, Madison Cunningham, Drew Mason, and Marian Corro Celma all took one shot attempt.
Noelle Rolfsen added another win to her stat sheet after making 2 saves in the full 90 minutes of action.
Marian will return to action on October 8 as they host St. Francis (Ind.) at 12 PM.
