Marian Takes Care of Business at Huntington

Huntington, Ind. – The Marian women's soccer team had no problem putting points on the board Saturday afternoon, as the Knights improved to 12-0-2 overall and 5-0-1 in Crossroads League with a 5-0 route of Huntington. The goals came for Marian from four different players collecting a goal.

It was all Marian in the opening half, putting together six shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Naomi Walters got things going by blasting the first three shots, before it was Erin Oleksak capitalizing on the sixth attempt to give the Knights their first goal of the day to give momentum to Drew Mason who scored the next goal of the half in the 29th minute to give Marian the 2-0 lead at the break.

The Knights continued their offensive tear the remainder of the half, controlling possession and erupting for 11 total shots. The Marian defense was also the story in the first half, not allowing Huntington a single shot.

Marian kept the aggressive approach in the second half with Walters starting things up again by taking the first two shots, before Isabelle Stanfield had a great look that the Huntington goalie managed to get her hands on.

The second half was a shooting frenzy for Marian, posting a total of 23 shots in the half. Unlike the first half, the Knights found their goals late into the half with the first goal coming in the 74th minute on the attack from Oleksak. Marian booted five more attempts that came from four different Knights, before Addie Turnock took a shot that got around the Forester keeper off the assist from Kiley Jones to give Marian their fourth goal of the game. In the 85th minute, Marian Corro Celma got the final goal of the day for the Knights to mark her first career goal and to propel the Knights to a 5-0 win.

Marian took 34 shots in the win, with Oleksak's two goals leading the way. Mason, Turnock and Corro Celma each added one goal. Leading in shot attempts was Jacelyn Smith with seven, while Walters had had six. Allie Schlom took four shots, while Corro Celma took three and Stanfield took two. Camryn Gietl, Maya Decker, and Lindsey Stoughton all had one attempt.

Noelle Rolfsen had an easy job in goal, playing the full 90 minutes with no shot attempts being made. Rolfsen picks up the win and moves to 12-0-2 on the season.

The Knights will host Goshen College next Saturday for a 1 PM contest.
