Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Marian men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season after a 2-0 loss this afternoon to Aquinas, moving them to 2-1-1 on the season.
The Knights struggled to find their offensive presence as they were only able to put up two shot attempts while the Saints had seven in the first half, executing on one at the 15:17 mark to take the lead 1-0. It was not until 22:50 when the Knights saw their first look from a Sebastian Gonzalez attempt that would go just wide right.
Marian saw a few corner attempts in the first half, but being unable to capitalize on any. Zack Quante gave his team a chance when he fired up a shot, missing left. The remainder of the half seemed to be all Aquinas as the host controlled the possession, leaving the Knights shotless.
After the break, the Saints picked up right where they left off, scoring early to grow their lead to 2-0. Nate Van Keulen got things rolling for the Knights at the 52:02 mark, taking his first shot of the game that would hit the post, leaving Marian searching for an answer.
Aquinas continued their pressure, notching six more shots in the half, while the Knights were only able to post one more shot in the half from a good look by Evan Dawdy that the Saints goalie would get his hands on.
Marian had five shots in the match with Van Keulen leading the way for the Knights, racking up two shots, while Dawdy and Quante each posted one. Brendan Weiger played the full 90 minutes in goal, making six saves on eight shots faced.
Marian will be back at home for their next contest against St. Francis (Ill.) on September 7 at 5 PM.
