Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Claim 10th Shutout of The Season

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Marian women's soccer team finished off the weekend with a 3-0 shutout over the University of St. Francis Cougars. The Knights are now 12-2-2 overall on the season and 5-1-1 in the Crossroads League. 

Layla Brown opened up the game with two shots on goal followed up by Sienna Mullen's shot to be blocked. Sammie King took advantage of a penalty kick off of a St. Francis' foul was saved by the Cougars goalie before she was able to knock one in the back of the net with the assist from Naomi Walters to take the 1-0 lead in the first half. Shots were the name of the game for this Knight's offense tallying 14 shots in the first half. Kylie Jones, Marian Corro Celma, Kylie Conrad, Brown, and Kaitlyn Lavezzi all claimed shots on target in the first half. Lavezzi, Conrad, Brown, and Corro Celma all claimed shots not on target as well. 


Lavezzi opened up the second half with a goal in the first minute of play with the assist from Erin Kelly to increase the lead to 2-0. With four corner kicks from Lizzie Chlystun and a shot on goal for Lavezzi, Katie Koger was able to get it in the back of the net with an assist from Brown. Much like the first half Marian's offense shined, tabbing nine more shots. Chlystun and Sienna Mullen were able to both claim shots on goal while Walters, Conrad, and Chlystun claimed shots not on goal. The Knights claimed the 3-0 win over the Cougars while also not allowing a shot from the visitors. 


Brown and Lavezzi led the team in shots and Conrad claimed three while King, Mullen, Chlystun, and Corro Celma each claimed two. Mycheala Johnson claimed her seventh win in goal for the night.


The Knights are back in action this Saturday, October 26th at home against the Mt. Vernon Nazarene Cougars starting at 7:00 p.m.
