Columbia, Mo. - The Marian woman's cross country team makes waves in the NAIA National Championship hosted at Mizzou's cross country course in Columbia, Missouri. In their first trip as a team to the National Championships the Knights claim a 12th place finish overall and were led by Katie Wood's third place individual finish.
The Knights finished with a total time of 1:51:57.90 averaging 22:23.58 per 6k. Marian took home a third, 54th, 92nd, 110th, 154th, 185th, and a 225th place individual finishes.
Woods led the Knights with a third place finish overall claiming her first All-American award in cross country. The Junior is the third-ever All-American in program history. Katie clocked a tme of 20:56.9 to brake her previous school record for the Women's 6k. Woods opened up her race with a 3:22.6 running in seventh place overall. She clocked a 3:29.4 split at the 2k mark moving up three placements in the race. Woods clocked a 3:31.3 and a 3:37.1 in the next two 1k's holding her fourth placement overall. The Junior was able to drop her split by 10 seconds at the 5k mark to move into third place going into her last 1000m. Woods ended her race holding a 3:29.0 in the final 1000m to secure her third place finish, All-American honor, as well as new program record.
The next Knight to finish was Freshman
Summer Rempe. Rempe claimed a 54th place finish individually with a time of 22:13.3. The Freshman started out in 48th overall with a pace of 3:41.1 and ended with a split of 3:36.9 in the las 1000m.
Nora Steele was the next to finish for Marian with a 92nd placement overall. The Senior clocked a time of 22:41.6 starting with a pace of 3:47.9 in 130th place overall. Steele ended 38 places better with a ending split of 3:46.4. The next Marian finisher was
Emma Beimfohr with a 110th place finish. The Junior clocked a time of 22:52.2 starting out in 209th place with a split of 3:53.7. Beimfohr ended the race moving up 99 placements with a ending split of 3:42.1.
Gracynn Hinkley was the next to finish for the Knights claiming a placement of 154 with a time of 23:13.9. The Sophomore started the race in 172nd place clocking her first split at 3:50.9. Hinkley finished out the race jumping ahead 18 placements with a split of 3:51.0. The next Knight to finish was
Vivienne Siefker with a 185th place finish with a time of 23:30.0. The Freshman started with a split of 3:51.3 and ended with a split of 3:55.7.
Lindsay Huston was the final one to finish for Marian with a placement of 225 with a time of 23:56.5. The Junior clocked a starting split of 4:03.7 and ended with a split of 3:55.2.
The Crossroads League also had Taylor place in second as a team, Grace finish in ninth, Indiana Wesleyan in 10th, and Goshen in 26th along with the Knights 12th place finish. The Master's claimed the overall win as a team with a total time of 1:46:47.00 averaging 21:21.40 per 6k to claim 92 points. The runner-ups Taylor claimed 93 points with a total time of 1:46:30.90 averaging 21:18.18 per 6k. St. Mary (Kan.), and Milligan rounded out the top four team finishes and awards.
As the Knights finished their cross country season, Marian will look to continue their athletic year with their indoor track and field season. The Knights will start their indoor track and field season on December 6th, competing at UIndy and Indiana Tech.
