INDIANAPOLIS - The Knights women's basketball team made a splash in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals, winning 83-50 over the Goshen Maple Leafs. Marian is now 28-1 overall with the win, advancing to the semifinals.
The opening half of the first quarter of Wednesday's game was very back and forth with both the Knights and Maple Leafs trading baskets bringing the score 10-10 at the midway point. The Knights started to break away with the lead with the help from
Allison Bosse and
Sara Majorosova having consecutive baskets allowing a five-point lead to break the tie and give the home team the control of the lead. Marian pushed their lead to double digits with
Abbey McNally scoring six quick points to bring the score 21-10 with a minute and a half left in the quarter. At the end of the quarter the Knights led the Maple Leafs 24-12.
Tamia Perryman strengthened the lead for the Knights within the first minute of the quarter with a quick layup to bring the score 26-13.
Aliyah Evans got her hand at increasing the lead for the home team with a good jump shot at the seven minute mark of the quarter.
Ella Collier helped lead the team into their largest lead of the half with a good jump shot taking the advantage to 15 points with three minutes left. Before the half ended Goshen found a rhythm to trim their deficit as the halftime score showed the home team on top 36-28.
Marian outscored Goshen 6-2 in the first three minutes of the quarter to re-establish their double digit lead. At the halfway mark of the quarter, the Knights continued to hold their lead with
Kinnidy Garrard scoring in the paint to hold the 12-point advantage. Over the last two minutes of play before the fourth, a pair of baskets from Evans and a buzzer-beating three-point shot by Bosse pushed the lead to 18 points. Marian led 56-38 after three quarters of play.
Early in the fourth quarter, the score held near an 18-point lead for Marian as the sides traded scores, and with 6:15 to play the game began to fully favor the Knights as McNally scored down low and at the free throw line.
Taylor Double got involved in the team's scoring as the lead pushed over the 20-point threshold, scoring and assisting on baskets to extend the lead near 30 points. With the lead secured, the Knights rotated in the remainder of their roster, getting the final scores of the night from
Esther Sevilla,
Kiley McNally, and
Olivia Faust to put the capper on the 83-50 victory over the Maple Leafs.
Abbey McNally led the Knights in points and rebounds with 18 and nine, while
Allison Bosse scored 17 points.
Kinnidy Garrard was also in double figures in total points with 13, as she too grabbed nine rebounds.
Aliyah Evans led the bench in scoring with eight points, and
Ella Collier finished with six rebounds.
Marian advances to the CL Tournament Semifinals to play the St. Francis Cougars on Friday night, with tip slated for 7:00 p.m.
