Marion, Ind. - The Marian track and field team turned their season to the month of February on Saturday, as they competed at the annual IWU Midwest Classic. The Knights had several strong performances, with their throwers and mid-distance runners stealing the show by hitting over 10 combined NAIA A standards.
The throwing trio of
Isaiah Tipping,
Christian Rios, and
Jacob Netral continued their 2024 season dominance, as the trio made noise in both the shot put and weight throw.
Jacob Netral was the shot put winner as he and
Christian Rios both hit NAIA A standards in the event, while the weight throw was headlined by
Isaiah Tipping. For the third time this season, Tipping has re-written the school record in the weight throw, as his NAIA A standard distance of 20.89m broke his previous mark by over 0.50 meters. Tipping, who was the winner by a distance of 1.79m, was joined by Rios, Netral, and
Markevious Keys as A standard throwers in the weight.
Making noise on the track was
Tristan Trevino and
Robin Aguilar-Gonzalez, who each hit the NAIA A standard time in the 1000m. Trevino was the winner of the event, while Gonzalez finished third.
Matthew Riehle would hit the NAIA B standard for a second time this season in the 600m, while
Olivier Lifrange and
Eli Givens each earned a win, taking first in the 200m and 400m, respectively.
Richard Dube joined Riehle with an NAIA B standard run in the 600m, and
Howard Hendricks placed fifth in the 1000m to hit the NAIA B standard.
Marian will next compete on Friday, February 9, as the Knights host their first-ever indoor meet, with the Marian Indoor Invite scheduled to take place at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
