Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Marian women's lacrosse team suffered a tough loss on the road falling 12-10 to Indiana Tech. The Knights are now 6-4 overall and 4-1 following the ranked loss.
The Knights got a slow start in the game with Brook Maul and Faith Donally from Indiana Tech scoring the first two goals of the game allowing the Warriors to take an early lead to end off the first quarter 2-0 in favor of the home team.
Indiana Tech came out in the second quarter shooting another unanswered goal to increase their lead.
Ella Grace Giedd shot back scoring the Knights first goal at the 12:24 mark to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Warriors.
Ashlynn Gray continued to push at the Warriors lead with a goal to decrease the lead down to one. Indiana Tech answered back at the Knights' push and scored another goal for the home team. Giedd finished up the quarter with one last goal to bring the score 4-3 in favor of Indiana Tech going into the half.
The Knights took action early in the third quarter with Giedd scoring her third goal of the day to tie the game up 4-4. Indiana Tech answered quickly to break the tie with another goal to take back the lead. Giedd quickly answered with her fourth goal of the day to once again tie the game up. Soon after
Ruby Mason claimed the lead for the Knights with a free position shot and brought the score 6-5. The Knights and Warriors traded goals shortly after with Donally from Indiana Tech getting another goal and Giedd from Marian claiming another goal to take the 7-6 lead. To finish up the quarter Giedd and
Katie Murphy had back-to-back goals to claim the 9-6 lead going into the final quarter.
The Warriors opened up the fourth quarter with four consecutive goals to bring the score 10-9 in favor of the home team at the 10 minute mark.
Taleah Nool pushed at the Warriors lead with a goal to tie up the game once again. Indiana Tech finished up the game with two more goals to claim the hard fought win over the Knights with a final score of 12-10.
Offensively Giedd lead the team in goals with six, and
Ashlynn Gray and
Rylie Boezeman lead with two assists each. Defensively
Ashlynn Gray lead the team in draw controls with four, while Mason lead the team in recovered ground balls with six.
Alex Dean and
Mallory Miranda also lead the team in caused turnovers with three each. In goal,
Katherine Hirsch had 14 saves on the day.
The Knights are back in action on Saturday, April 6th against Rochester University with the first draw set at 1:00 p.m.
