Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 8 Marian Women's Lacrosse Wins 11-9 Over Ave Maria

Ave Maria, Fla. - The Marian women's lacrosse started off their two game road-trip with a 11-9 win over Ave Maria. The Knights are now 2-2 overall.

The Knights took action early in the game scoring the first goal, as Ruby Mason scored the first goal of the night. Ella Grace Giedd continued to bring the energy for Marian with two consecutive goals by the 9:21 mark. The Knights continued to dominate with Mason scoring another goal bringing the score 4-0 in favor of the Knights at the midway point of the period. The Gyrenes quickly responded with two back-to-back goals from Abigail Seiler and Lily Hynds to make it a two goal game. Katie Murphy answered Ave Maria's push and scored two more goals for Marian to bring the score 6-2 at the end of the period. 

The Gyrens scored the opening goal for the third period early to decrease the Knights lead. Mason quickly answered scoring a goal two and a half minutes later to bring the lead back up to four points. Ave Maria had no signs of giving up the fight by scoring two goals to bring the difference back down to two goals. Scoring came to a slow after the midway mark ending the period with a score of 7-5 in favor of the Knights.

Ave Maria scored quickly in the second half with Anna Bocchino shooting a free position shot. Murphy got her hand in the mix again after the midway point scoring a goal for the Knights bring the score 8-6. The Gyrenes continued to push at the Knights with another goal bring the game back into a one goal game. 

The Knights took the early push in the fourth period with Murphy scoring her fourth goal of the night increasing the lead for the Knights back to two goals. Ashlynn Gray got her hand in the mix at the midway point of the game to bring the score 10-7 in favor of the Knights. The Gyrenes continued to push at the Knights lead with a goal quickly after Gray's goal. The Knights answered back quickly with Giedd scoring her third goal of the evening to increase Marian's lead to three points. Ave Maria scored another goal with 2:01 on the clock to bring the score 11-9 in favor of the Knights to finish off the game. 

Murphy led the team in goals with four and one assist. Giedd had two goals and one assist, while Mason had two goals.

Madeline Dumke and Alex Dean led the team defensively, with Dean recovering five ground balls recovered and Dumke recording six turnovers. In goal, Katherine Hirsch took the win having 11 saves on the day.

The Knights are back in action on Friday, March 8th on the road against Keiser University with the first draw set at 12:00 p.m.
