Knights Split with Wildcats for the Second Time

Marion, Ind. - The Marian softball team ended their season-series with Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, splitting the double header winning game one 4-0 and falling in game two 3-4. Marian is now 35-9 overall and 23-7 in the Crossroads League.

Game 1 | Marian 4-0 Indiana Wesleyan
After a six inning defensive battle with the Wildcats the Knights claimed the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Grace Meyer singled up the right side to get on base. Shortly after, Lily Wendt singled up the middle to allow Meyer to score the first run of the game and claim the lead for Marian. After a pair of errors Savannah Harweger went up to the plate with bases loaded and doubled into center field to allow for Emily Phillips and Jenna Minnix to score two more runs for the Knights. At the next at bat Brooke Knox hit a sacrifice ground out to third base to allow Anna Pritchett to score and allow the Knights to claim the 4-0 lead. 

Marian got out of the bottom of the seventh with a ground out to shortstop, a fly out to center field, and a strikeout swinging to allow the visitors to claim the 4-0 win in game one.

In a tough defensive battle the Knights were able to claim five hits in the game, with Harweger, Knox, Meyer, Abbey Hofmann, and Wendt all claiming one each. Harweger led the team with RBI's with two, Knox and Wendt were closely behind with one each. Olivia Stunkel pitched the entire game claiming her 20th win on the season, striking out eight batters and only giving up three hits.

Game 2 | Marian 3-4 Indiana Wesleyan
The Wildcats opened up the game in the bottom of the first inning with a home run to claim the lead. The Knights fired back with Caroline Roop singling into right field to allow Abbey Hoffman to score the tying run of the game to bring the score 1-1 going into the bottom of the second inning.

After three scoreless innings for both sides the Wildcats claimed the lead once again with a sacrifice fly out to center field to score two runners and bring the score 3-1 in favor of the home team.

The Knights pushed at the Wildcats lead with Hofmann doubling into left field to allow Grace Meyer to score, bringing the game to a one run game. Savannah Harweger singled into left field to end the inning allowing Mackenzie Dalton to score the 3-3 tying run.

After another scoreless inning for both sides the Wildcats hit a walk off bunt to score the last run and claim the 4-3 win to split the double header.

The Knights claimed seven hits in game two with Hofmann claiming three and Harweger claiming two. Madere and Roop also claimed one hit each. Hofmann, Harweger, and Roop each claimed one RBI. Macy Coan pitched the complete game for the Knights taking the loss and claimed three strikeouts.

The Knights will be back in action against Taylor in a double header on the road on Monday, April 22nd with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m. for game one.
