Huntington, Ind. - The Marian softball team swept the Huntington Foresters on the road, as the Knights won game one with a score of 1-0 and won game two with a score of 6-2. The Knights are now 25-5 overall and 13-3 in the conference.
Game 1 | Marian 1-0 Huntington
Olivia Stunkle got the ball in game one, and had a no-hitter up until the bottom of the fourth inning. The Knights started off slow offensively with
Savannah Harweger claiming the only hit in the first inning. In the top of the second
Jenna Minnix grounded out to first base to allow
Abbey Hofmann to score the singular run of the game.
After a scoreless inning for both sides, the Foresters had the tying runner on base in the bottom of the third with only one out on the board. The Knights defense took charge with Hofmann getting two fly-outs to left field back to back to get out of the inning.
The Knights had eight hits in the game with, Harweger tallying three and Hofmann tallying two.
Brooke Knox,
Sierra Norman, and
Lily Wendt all tallied one each. Stunkel took the win with five strikeouts, and only three hits given up.
Game 2| Marian 6-2 Huntington
The Knights got the bats rolling early with
Sierra Norman doubling down the left field line to allow Madere to score the first run of the game. The Foresters quickly tied up the ball game 1-1 with a walk advancement on loaded bases.
Hayley Greene quickly answered with a steal at home to bring the score 2-1 to claim the Knights lead. In the top of the third Madere continued to increase the lead with a deep home run, which was quickly followed up with a double down the left field line by Hofmann to allow for
Grace Meyer to score to increase the lead 4-1.
After three scoreless innings the Knights continued to increase their lead with
Lily Wendt scoring a run off of a throw after Harweger's foul out to second base to add to the lead 5-1.
In final attempts to rally Huntington doubled into left center to allow Reck to score a run and decrease the Knights lead down to three. The Knights then took advantage of an error by second base to allow for
Emily Phillips to score the last run of the game and claim the 6-2 win for Marian.
The Knights tallied 13 hits, with
Anna Pritchett tallying three.
Hayley Greene,
Grace Meyer,
Abby Madere, and
Savannah Harweger all tallied two, while
Sierra Norman and
Abbey Hofmann both tallied one each to end off the night.
Macy Coan took the win with one strikeout for the game.
The Knights will be back in action tomorrow, April 7th in Fort Wayne for a double header against the University of Saint Francis with first pitch set for 1:00 pm.
