Knoxville, Tenn. - The Marian men's track and field team competed at the Tennessee Invite on Friday and Saturday, putting up strong numbers against a field comprised against mainly NCAA DI schools. Marian hit seven NAIA standards at the meet, with two school records falling for the Knights.
Marian's best combined efforts came from the throwing tandem of
Christian Rios and
Jacob Netral, as the duo competed in the finals of each throw over the weekend. Netral broke his own school record in the shot put with an A standard distance of 18.04m, and finished sixth in the discus and ninth in the hammer throw. Rios hit an NAIA A standard in each of his three events, finishing seventh in the shot put, while taking third in both the discus and the hammer.Â
On the track,
Olivier Lifrange placed fifth overall with an A standard time, and later the product from Belgium helped Marian hit a new school record in the 4x400m relay.
Richard Dube,
Eli Givens, and
Matthew Riehle joined Lifrange with the school record relay, as the group clocked a time of 3:12.05. The time breaks the previous record by two seconds.
Marian would have a 10th or better finish in all but three events they competed in, with
Tristan Trevino hitting a B standard in the 800m, and
Jeremiah Brown finishing sixth in the 100m.
Blake Hipkiss finished seventh in the 5000m, and
