Gameday Guide: No. 7 Marian Closes September at Taylor Saturday Night

INDIANAPOLIS - Coming off a nail-biting 24-23 victory last Saturday at Lawrence Tech, the Marian football team travels north once again to close the month of September, heading to Upland on Saturday night to take on Taylor University. Saturday's game has the potential to be a battle to determine the last undefeated team in the entire MSFA, with kickoff coming at 7:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Marian earned a win last Saturday at Lawrence Tech, taking home a 24-23 win. Despite their defensive struggles against the Blue Devils, the Knights put together a two-minute drive, marching 78 yards in 2:19 for the game-winning score, as Tristan Polk found Tirae Spence for the final touchdown. Kenny Curry converted the game-winning extra point, and JT Downey sealed the win with an interception.

TAKING ON THE TROJANS
Marian has historically owned their series with Taylor, owning a 14-game winning streak entering this weekend while holding a 16-1 all-time record against the Trojans. The lone loss in the series came in 2009, when the Knights fell at home. Marian is 9-0 all-time in games at Taylor, and are meeting under the lights for the second time in three matchups in Upland.

Last year, the Knights won 34-20 at Taylor, putting up big scoring plays in the first half. This season, the Knights and Trojans will do battle as undefeated teams, marking just the second matchup in series history that both teams were undefeated. The only other contest that the teams were undefeated came in the 2021 spring season, which the Knights were 1-0 and the Trojans were 0-0.

Taylor is off to their best start, as their 4-0 mark is their longest undefeated start since their 1999 season. The winner Saturday night could determine the last undefeated team in the Mid-States Football Association, as the Knights and Trojans are both unblemished, as is St. Francis (Illinois). The Fighting Saints kickoff at 2:00 p.m. against Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

WEATHER ALERT
With Hurricane Helene hitting the southern coast on Thursday, rain and wind could reach as far north on Taylor by Saturday night. Make sure to grab rain gear, and prepare for all elements.
