Story Links

Indianapolis, Ind. - Marian opened up their home portion of the 2025 season with a 17-14 win over (RV) Georgetown. Marian is now 2-2 on the season with WHAC play starting up in a couple of weeks.

Marian dominated the first quarter of play with two unanswered goals in the first four minutes of play. Rylie Boezeman and Ella Grace Giedd recorded the unassisted goals for the Knights with Boezeman's recorded as a free position shot. Georgetown was able to gain their footing with a goal to soften the blow but Giedd had other plans ticking off another goal from a free position shot to bring the score 3-1. Each team traded goals to end the quarter with Lizzie Piercy recording the goal for the Knights ending the quarter with the 4-2 lead.

Unlike the first quarter, the second quarter got off to a slower start with the Tigers recording the first two goals with 8:20 and 8:05 left on the clock to bring the game to a stand still. Marian didn't let the bottleneck hold for long following up with a 4-0 run to bring the score 8-4. In the run Ruby Mason picked up a pair of goals with one being a free position shot while Giedd and Boezman each recorded one goal in the run. Georgetown fired back at Marian's run with a goal but the Knights showed no signs of backing down with three more unanswered goals to end the quarter with a score of 11-5. In the final run of the quarter Sarah Travis got her hand in the mix with a free position goal while Mason and Giedd recorded one more goal each.

Out of halftime Georgetown fired off a goal but Marian fought back maintaining their lead with a goal from Lizzie Piercy. The Tigers brought out the fight recording three more goals to outscore the Knights by two goals. Giedd was able to benefit off of a Georgetown turnover to decrease the blow and record another goal for Marian. The Tigers ended the quarter with a score of 13-9 to bring it down to a four possession game for the Knights.

The final quarter of play was a dog fight with the Tigers firing off three goals in the first five minutes of play. Marian was able to break up the three goal run with another goal from Mason with the assist from Giedd to maintain their lead. Tori Farkas followed up the Tigers push with a goal off of a free position shot to increase the game to a three possession lead. Georgetown made their final push with a pair of goals within a minute to bring the game to a 15-14 score with 6:30 left to play. Marian was able to wrap up the game with a pair of goals from Giedd to record the 17-14 win over the Tigers.

Ella Grace Giedd led the Knights in goals with seven, shots with 11 while nine were on target, caused turnovers with three, and draw controls with four. Ruby Mason wasn't far behind with four goals, nine shots with eight on target, and three draw controls. Lizzie Piercy and Rylie Boezeman had two goals apiece while Piercy took six shots with three on goal and Boezeman took four with three on goal. Piercy also led the team in assists while Giedd, Mason and Tori Farkas each had one a piece. Sarah Travis and Farkas each had one goal as well in the match up.

Olivia Dean and Katherine Hirsch led the team in ground ball recoveries with four a piece. Giedd and Chase Searcy weren't far behind with three each and Mason and Alex Dean each had two. In goal Hirsch took the win with nine saves on the evening.
