Commanding Third Quarter Run Propels Marian's Win Over Goshen

Indianapolis, Ind. - Marian took the sweep over Goshen with a 77-45 win over the Maple Leafs Wednesday evening. Marian is now 18-5 overall and 11-2 in the Crossroads League.

The Knights opened up the game with a free throw and layup by Abbey McNally but were quickly countered by a three-point jumper by the Maple Leafs to bring the score 3-3. Abbey and Taylor Double were able to take the lead back with a layup from McNally and a pair of free throws by Double. Goshen fought back with two three-pointers only to be broken up by Double's three to bring the score 10-9 and draw a Marian timeout. Out of the timeout McNally was able to record a pair of layups to extend their lead. Both sides of the court continued to fight with a layup from each side with McNally recording the basket for the Knights. With 3:38 remaining the Knights went on a two basket run with a three pointer from Double and a layup from Madisyn Bailey to bring the score 21-11. Both sides traded layups once more with Olivia Faust recording the basket for the Knights. The visitors ended the quarter with a pair of layups to bring the score 23-17.

Goshen opened up the second quarter benefiting off of a Marian foul, recording a pair of free throws to bring the margin down to four points. The Maple Leafs continued to fire off baskets with a jumper but were quickly countered by a layup from Eva Fisher. The visitors kept firing off points with a free throw but Zoe Wheeler got her hand in the mix with a layup to extend the score 27-22. Goshen continued to push with another three-point jumper to draw a media timeout with a two point margin. Out of the media timeout Kiley McNally was able to bring the lead back to four with a layup. Abbey was able to fire off a pair of layups with 1:41 remaining and drawing a Goshen timeout. The Maple Leafs ended the quarter with a layup to bring the score 33-27 in favor of Marian.

Marian opened the half with a jumper from Double, a layup from Abbey McNally and a layup from Faust to bring the score 39-27. The Knights extended their lead with a three-point jumper from Double to draw a Goshen timeout. Out of the timeout Marian extended their lead with a two point jumper from Double. The Knights extended their push with a three-pointer from Faust and Kiley McNally and a pair free throws from Bailey to extend their lead to 25. Goshen was able to fire back with a layup at the 2:39 minute mark. Kenna Kirby and Fisher were able to counter the visitors basket with a pair of layups followed by a layup from Kiley to bring the score 58-29 with 30 seconds remaining in the quarter. Kirby hit the last basket of the quarter with a jumper but was quickly countered by a buzzer beater jumper from the Maple Leafs to end the quarter 60-31.

After a two minute drought for both sides the Maple Leafs benefited off of a Marian foul with a pair of free throws followed by a layup. The Knights got on the board at the 6:24 mark with a three-pointer from Fisher but the Maple Leafs were able to decrease the blow with a layup to bring the score 63-37. Kennedy Fuelling got her hand in the mix in the fourth quarter with a pair of layups only to be broken up by a Goshen free throw. Bailey knocked down another jumper followed by a layup from Esther Sevilla to extend the lead to 33 points. The visitors fired back with a free throw followed by a jumper and three-pointer to bring the score 71-44 with two minutes remaining in the game. Zoe Wheeler fired back with a three-pointer followed by a free throw by Fuelling and a pair of free throws by Kenna Gray. Goshen was able to end the game with a free throw to end the game with a final score of 77-45.

Abbey McNally led the Knights in points and rebounds with 17 points and 16 rebounds in the evening. Taylor Double also recorded 15 points with Kiley McNally, Olivia Faust, and Eva Fisher ended the evening all with seven points. Madisyn Bailey led the team in assists with eight and led the team in steals with five.

Marian will be back in action as they travel up to Huntington to take on the Foresters on Saturday February 8th with tip set for 1 PM.
