Stunkel Highlights Marian's Twin Bill Against Goshen

Goshen, Ind.- The Knights split in their twin bill against Goshen winning game one 8-0 and falling in game two 11-10. The Knights are now 20-4 on the season and 10-2 in conference.

Game 1 | Marian 8-0 Goshen
The Knights struck early in game one with Lily Wendt kicking things off with an RBI off of a single up the middle to allow Abby Madere to get on the board. Hayley Greene quickly followed up with a double into right center to allow Grace Meyer and Wendt to score, bringing the game to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first inning.

After three dry innings, Madere struck again with a single into center field allowing Brooke Knox to score and Abbey Hofmann to advance to third then score on an error by center field to increase the lead 5-0. In the fifth inning Knox hit a two run homer into right center to allow herself and Malone to score two more runs for the Knights.

In the seventh and final inning Meyer hit a solo home run into center field increasing the lead 8-0. Olivia Stunkel went into the final inning striking out the first batter. The second batter for the Maple Leafs lined out to right field followed by the third batter singling through the left side. Stunkel got out of the game with a strikeout, pitching a complete game shutout and earning her 10th win of the season.

Grace Meyer and Ally Malone led the Knights each going 3-2 from the plate while Meyer recorded two runs and an RBI and Malone recorded one run. Abby Madere and Jenna Minnix both went 4-2 from the plate with Madere recording one run and one RBI. Brooke Knox went 3-1 from the plate with two runs scored and one RBI. In the circle Olivia Stunkel pitched the complete game shutout with 6.2 innings pitched without a hit given up. Stunkel recorded nine strikeouts and only one hit given up late in the seventh inning.

Game 2 | Marian 10-11 Goshen
Much like game one Marian struck big in the first inning with Abby Madere grounding out to shortstop earning an RBI with Abbey Hofmann crossing the plate. At the next at bat Lily Wendt doubled into left field allowing Anna Prichett to tack another run onto the board. Grace Meyer wrapped things up in the inning with a single into center field allowing Wendt to score and bring the lead 3-0.

In her next at bat Madere struck again with a two run home run into center field to allow both her and Hofmann to increase the Knights lead in the top of the second. The Maple Leafs gained their footing in game two with a sac fly followed by a double to bring the score 5-2 at the end of the second inning.
Madere continued to extend the lead with a single to third base allowing Caroline Roop to cross the plate. At the next at bat Wendt fired off another double earning two RBI's with Madere and Karly Anderson to score, extending the lead 8-2.

Marian kept extending their lead with Anderson hitting a sacrifice fly to allow Jenna Minnix to cross the plate to extend the margin to seven. Goshen was able to figh back in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run scored on an error from the Knights on third base followed by a sacrifice fly to score another run bringing Marian's lead down 9-4.

After a dry fifth inning Malone singled again into right field to allow Minnix to score a run and increase the lead back to six. The Maple Leafs kept pushing with a single into center field to score another run in the bottom of the sixth. Goshen followed up with a double to score a pair of runs and a pair of singles to score another two runs and bring the score 10-9. Lauren Mayer came in to pitch, walking a batter and throwing a wild pitch followed by a single into left field to allow the Maple Leafs to take the 11-10 lead over Marian. The Knights tried to score another run in the final inning but came up short to the Maple Leafs defense. 

Lily Wendt and Jenna Minnix led the team each going 4-3 from the plate with Wendt earning one run and three RBI's and Minnix earning two runs. Grace Meyer went 4-2 from the plate with one RBI while Abby Madere went 5-2 from the plate with two runs and four RBI's. In the circle Macy Coan took the start pitching four innings with 21 batters faced. Katie Lackman took the loss pitching 1.2 innings striking out one batter out of her 14 faced. Lauren Mayer closed out pitching 0.1 innings with three batters faced.

The Knights will be back in action on Friday as they travel up to Marion to take on the Wildcats starting at 4 pm.
