INDIANAPOLIS - Paced by a high-octane third quarter, the Marian women's lacrosse team upset No. 7 Indiana Tech on Wednesday night, capping their senior night with a 14-12 victory. Marian's win moves them a half-game out of first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, as they sit at 9-4 on the season and 5-1 against the WHAC.

Indiana Tech controlled the game early on Wednesday night, netting the first three goals of the game to capture an early lead. Despite the Warriors' success on offense, Marian managed to get quality looks on goal, winning multiple draw controls in the first quarter, however the team's possessions either came up with missed shots or ended with turnovers. Ruby Mason and Ella Grace Giedd had multiple scoring chances in the quarter, but came up short as the Warriors led 3-0 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Knights began to find their footing, ripping a goal four minutes into the period with Delaney Koles scoring the team's first goal of the day. Indiana Tech would respond with a score of their own to reclaim the three-goal lead, but after a draw control won by Ruby Mason, Koles again found herself in scoring position as Lizzie Piercy connected with her teammate for the score. Taleah Nool and Ruby Mason would follow with goals for Marian, capping a 3-0 run to bring the game to a four-goal stalemate. Marian was unable to hold their momentum going into halftime, as Indiana Tech's Michelle Farrell scored with 2:22 remaining in the second, giving the visitors a 5-4 edge. The lead would stick going into halftime, as Marians final two shot attempts of the half missed frame.

Trailing entering the second half, Marian's offense came out aggressive, wasting no time to score as Ruby Mason brought the game even at five goals each with her shot at the 13:48 mark. Jada Taylor followed with a goal 45 seconds after Mason to give Marian the lead, and with 11:30 to play in the quarter Ella Grace Giedd scored to extend the lead to two goals. The quick 3-0 blitz gave Marian the lead for good in the game, despite Indiana Tech responding on two different occasions to make the contest a one-score game. Giedd and Mason helped Marian keep a two-goal lead, and with 4:17 to play in the third quarter Giedd again rattled the cage to take a 10-7 lead.

Marian and Indiana Tech would finish the quarter trading a pair of goals, with Marian being able to hold a three-goal lead entering the final quarter following Alex Dean's goal. Holding a 12-9 lead entering the fourth, Marian looked to put the game away and did so with a pair of goals from Giedd icing the game. Indiana Tech attempted to mount a comeback scoring three late goals, however the efforts would be denied by Katherine Hirsch, who made three saves in the final five minutes to keep the Knights in the lead, as Marian held on to win 14-12.

Hirsch made eight saves in the win for Marian while recovering a pair of ground balls, moving to 8-4 on the season in goal with the win. Giedd led the team in scoring with seven points, netting four goals and three assists. Mason scored three goals and had two assists, and Lizzie Piercy scored once while dishing out four assists. Both Alex Dean and Delaney Koles scored twice in the victory.

The regular season for the Knights concludes on Saturday at Siena Heights, with opening draw scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The WHAC Tournament will begin on either April 15 or 17 for the Knights, pending the final results of the league standings.
