Indianapolis, Ind. - The Marian Men's Soccer team finished off the first week of the 2025 season with a 3-0 shutout win over Lawrence Tech. The Knights are now 2-0 on the season.
The Knights quickly out-shot the Blue Devils 12-2 in the first half with
Rafael Zambrano,
Sebastian Gonzalez,
Foslyn Grant, and
Donovan Doolittle each recording one while Joao Rocha and Josh Wessling each recorded two.
Gustavo Nunes was able to get around the goalie and score the first goal of the game and bring the Knights to a 1-0 lead at the 35 minute mark. Doolittle recorded one more shot on goal and Wessling recorded a pair with one on target before the period ran out of time.
Out of the half Wessling got a hold of the ball first and shot once more but was a tad too wide. Lawrence Tech took a gamble at a goal but was a tad higher than the target. After a quadrant of shots Nunes was able to get his footing once more and score his brace for the evening and extend the Knights lead 2-0. Marian continued to out-shoot the Blue Devils 5-4 before
Rafael Zambrano recorded the third goal of the night and extend Marian's lead 3-0. Lawrence Tech put out their last efforts at a goal but were unsuccessful to
Mateo Garcia-Galan's efforts in goal to allow the Knights to record their first shutout win of the season.
Gustavo Nunes led the team in goals with two while also recording four shots with three on target.
Josh Wesseling led the team in shots with seven with three on target.
Donovan Doolittle recorded three with two on target. In goal
Mateo Garcia-Galan recorded his second win and first shutout with four saves on the evening.
Marian will be back in action on Wednesday August 27th at home at 1 pm.
