Koger's First Half Goal Seals Marian's 1-0 Win at Saint Ambrose

Davenport, Iowa - The Marian women's soccer team moved to 4-0 all-time under head coach Justin Sullivan against Saint Ambrose, as the Knights left Iowa on Saturday night with a 1-0 victory. Katie Koger scored the game-winning goal in the first half, moving the Knights to 2-0-0 on the season.

The Knights held the advantage on the pitch throughout Saturday's match, owning possession and shot control in the 90-minute affair. The Fighting Bees pressed early with the match's first shot attempt in the seventh minute, only to trigger a flurry of attempts from Marian. Four Knights registered a shot in the first 20 minutes of play, and in the 25th minute, the aggressive attack was awarded as Marian drew a foul in striking range. Katie Koger took the penalty kick after the Saint Ambrose foul and buried the shot past the keeper for the game's first goal.

Kylie Conrad and Olivia Parmer would look to add to the lead before the half's conclusion, but each shot to no avail, with a block and a save keeping the bout a 1-0 score.

The offense kept possession in the second half, dominating the Fighting Bees in shots 8-2. Looks on target from Koger, Allie Tredway, and Parmer managed to avoid the net thanks to strong keeper play, but the offensive effort allowed Marian to preserve their stamp on the game. Saint Ambrose pieced together a final run in the 86th minute, getting a shot off from Jenna Horst, however, the striker's boot was denied by Lily Ames in goal, as the junior was able to secure the clean sheet in the 1-0 win.

Marian ended the match with an 18-3 advantage in shot attempts, while holding a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. Koger took four shots with three looks going on target as she scored her first goal of the season by way of the penalty kick. Parmer led the team in shots with six, and took two of the team's six looks on goal. In goal, Lily Ames moved to 2-0-0 on the season, playing a scoreless 90 minutes in goal. Ames made three saves in the match, her first saves of the season.

The Knights will quickly turn around, returning home to play against Ottawa University (Ariz.) on Monday afternoon. The first home match of the season is set for 1:00 p.m.
