Cumberland, Tenn. - The No. 11 ranked Women's Soccer Team finished their Labor Day weekend road trip with a 2-1 win over Cumberland (Tenn.). The Knights move to 5-0 on the season with the victory.
Cumberland was able to strike first with a goal at the three minute mark to take the early 1-0 lead over Marian. The Phoenix was able to tick down one more shot before
Katie Koger followed up with a pair of shots on target.
Sienna Mullen continued the push with a goal in the 28th minute with the assist from
Allie Tredway to even up the score 1-1. After two more minutes of play
Sammie King quickly took the lead for the Knights with a goal assisted by
Marian Corro Celma. Corro Celma took a pair of shots one on target but was unsuccessful to Cumberland's goalie ending the half with a 2-1 lead.
Koger opened up the second half with two more shots on target followed by
Taylor Wert recording a shot wide. Cumberland followed up with a pair of shots on target but came up unsuccessful to Ames' defense in goal. Koger,
Savannah Spangler, and
Cecelia Kostick all took shots at goal but once more came up short to the Phoenix's defense in goal. Each team took multiple more shots but all came just shy of a goal with Cumberland recording four and Marian recording two before the clock ran out allowing the Knights to record the 2-1 win.
Sammie King and
Sienna Mullen each led the team in goals recording two a piece with
Marian Corro Celma and
Allie Tredway each recording an assist.
Katie Koger led the team in shots with six while five were on target. Corro Celma recorded two shots with one on target while
Olivia Parmer,
Savannah Spangler,
Taylor Wert, and Ceclia Kostick all recorded one each. In goal
Lily Ames recorded her fifth win recording three saves and one goal allowed.Â
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, September 6th at home as they take on UNOH at 3PM.Â
